Slobber, slobber… drool, drool… | The Bull Speaks!

OK. All of you In-Laws, Out-Laws, Parents, Siblings, & Other Assorted Relatives and Friends, LISTEN UP! (…or rather, read on…)
Ya’ll know I don’t ask for anything. I’ve always figured that in this life at least I was not intended to actually *have* the things I want, but rather merely spend my free time staring longingly at various free catalogs. But there is one thing that I’ve been nuts over since I was a kid and never had – a Ruger Single Action Revolver chambered for the .45 Colt, with a 4 5/8 inch barrel. Over the years the company changed it from its original design several times. Each change made it more and more bulky. Almost two years ago Ruger introduced one of the fixed sight Vaquero models with a “Bird’s Head” grip frame. But it was still the same huge action frame and bulk.

Not any more!!!! YAY!!! Ruger listened to the guys involved in Western shooting and all of us history buffs that have written *tons* of letters wanting the old model back. It has been released as the Color Case Blued Ruger New Vaquero, model number NV-44.
So all of ya’ll just pool your money for my birthday coming up in April and I’ll be a real happy camper! ;-)

Ain’t gonna work, is it…? Well. I had to try… :-( Anyhoo, here’s a picture of the thing so you too can stare at its beauty. Enjoy!

Ruger New Vaquero in .45 Colt

Factory Release…

The Color Case Blued Ruger New Vaquero is an entirely new, fixed-sight single action revolver. Destined to exceed even the legendary performance of the original Ruger Vaquero, the New Vaquero offers a new smaller size and great new features, including:

** Smaller, original-size frame and cylinder.

** Original, slimmer “XR-3″ style steel grip frame.

**New crescent-shaped ejector rod head and steel ejector rod housing.

** Reverse indexing cylinder pawl which positively aligns the cylinder with the loading gate for faster loading and unloading.

** Beveled cylinder for easier holstering.

**Unobstrusive internal lock contained within the grip frame.

** Longer hammer spur and improved hammer springs for easier cocking.

** Patented Ruger transfer bar safety mechanism and loading gate interlock, which provides an unparalleled measure of security against accidental discharge.

** Checkered black “hard rubber” grips with new eagle crest design.

** Blade front and notch rear sights.

Ahh…. Dreams….
Omar, out.

Bad news… My dealer tells me Ruger Vaqueros have been recalled.

I’m trying to get more information on this recall myself — which is the reason I came to this site iin the first place.

So far, I have only found some Ruger locks and cables being recalled.

If aanyone has more info. on this (Vaquero) recall, please contact me (put “Vaquero Recall” in the subject so I don’t delete it as spam.

  2. Bull says:

I’ve found nothing on any recalls. I’ve also checked the Ruger “Special Safety Announcements Webpage ” and found nothing there on the Vaquero.

Having been a ruger fan since the late 70’s and the current owner of a mk ii 22 auto, a gp-100 4 inch, a 5.5 inch super bh and a 96/44 I am intensely interested in the new “downsized” blackhawk/vaquero line. Doubt I’ll go with the 45 LC version cause new dies, brass, etc. would be a pain right now–but one in 357 has certainly captured my interest!! Yippee-eye-oh-kaiyay!!

  4. lkenan says:

Any further word on this recall or is it another urban legend?????

Some dealers here in eastern NC say they have all been recalled…….other dealers have the 357’s in stock but not 45’s…………some CAS shooters
say the ones in stock WILL BE recalled, it’s just a matter of time.

Got the home office number from the Ruger website, plan to call Monday.

  5. Tony Fraviatz says:

Does anyone know if there is a kit to give the older Vaqueros a reverse indexing pawl?

  6. Bull says:

    I’m not aware of any.

  7. Bull says:

    So it’s properly posted… I GOT ONE!

And I bloody well love the thing!

  8. Todd says:

Yes, there is a free spin pawl for the older Vaqueros. You can find it at Brownells. I have two of them in my Rugers and they work great. I did order the video on the Vaquero from Brownells as well, and it enabled me to install the free spin pawls. I had to file a little bit on only one of the guns. The other was a perfect fit. I am not a gunsmith and have had no problem installing them. I have since done four guns. Good luck!
