I always thought that he lowest point on land on earth is at the Dead Sea, on the border of Jordan and Israel. The Dead Sea lies at 1,312 feet (400 meters) below sea level. I was wrong, (not a first, but nearly so…).
Turns out that the lowest known land point is hidden in the Bentley Subglacial Trench in Antartica. It is the deepest ice yet discovered and the world’s lowest elevation not under seawater. Elevation: 8382.5 feet below sea level (-2,555 m). This big bloody hole is the size of Mexico! (Hmmm… So that’s where we can put it.)
Note: the lowest undersea point is the Pacific Ocean’s Marianas Trench. It’s near Guam and is 35,840 feet (10,924 m) deep.
