So I’m standing at the gas pump watching the numbers on the dial whiz by at an astoundingly rapid pace as the debit card in my wallet attempts to escape. In the background is the local news playing over the outdoor speakers near the pumps. The newscaster is announcing record profits for the oil companies while my body is recording record high blood pressures.
Folks, record profits are good thing – unless they come as the rewards of illegal price gouging. That is exactly what is happening here in America. And don’t give me that “Supply and Demand” argument! It doesn’t apply. Why? Because when the price goes up for the oil companies then it goes up for us. Right? Right.
So if the oil companies are themselves paying more, where did the massive profits come from?
See, no correlation. Gas prices are being artificially raised to levels that the populace simply can’t afford. Far above what is required to offset the increase in crude. The only reason for this is the greed of the oil companies. It has nothing to do with the events in the Middle East, (because if they can’t sell it they make no money), or the rapid growth of China and India. Simple g-r-e-e-d, Greed.
The real cause of $3.00 per gallon low grade gas is the oil companies right here in America – and our elected official’s unwillingness to stop the gouging of the people that elected them. Oh, the politicians like to tell us that they pay the same high prices we do. Sure, with our tax dollars that pay their salaries! (…and the payoffs from the oil PACs no doubt.)
Gentlemen, something must be done TODAY! I voted for each and every one of you. I have not had much reason to complain, yet this gouging of the Nation must stop.
Mr. Bush, I worked long and hard to see you elected twice through elections so close that the Left is still claiming fraud. I support your effort in this War on Terror. However, Sir, you owe American’s more than what you have given – especially here at home.

Federal and State taxes add another 15-25% per gallon depending on where you live.
It seems a bit hypocritical for the feds to bitch at the oil companies about price gouging when the assholes who didn’t even do any of the work to pump the shit, refine it, and ship it are raping us four times as bad on the same product. At least the damn oil companies provide jobs.
I think the oil companies could definately lower at the pump price a bit, but the fuckers in Washington could lower it a hell of a lot more….
