2006 July | The Bull Speaks! - Part 2

Welcome to the One Hundred and Ninety Ninth Carnival of the Vanities! This is also The Bull’s very first attempt at hosting such an event. I’ll not ask you to take it easy on me. In fact, let me know where I screwed up so that I will learn from my mistakes. While this is the first, I don’t intend for it to be my last hosting of a Carnival. Who knows? Perhaps I’ll be to Political/Conservative/Backwoods/whatever for this Carnival, but that’s the wonder of the Blogosphere: There is plenty of everything out here for those who seek.

I made up my mind that I would not post this Carnival until I had personally visited each site and read each post in its entirety. I’ve got to tell you all the Truth, (as I try to do with every post on The Bull Speaks!). I really had no idea of the vast assortment of topics that folks feel so strongly about. It is a good thing to get out of ones comfort zone occasionally just to see where on the scale of Humanity one falls. Heck, one might even find information out there that will change ones opinion on a given topic.

As I begin this job it is 1835 hours Central Time. The Gods alone only know what time it will be when I complete the task at hand. I’ve got no idea at all of the best way to proceed. I’ll just have to read the post offered and go from there. Let us begin…

The Bull has always been one to prefer getting Business out of the way right off, freeing as much time for Life’s other mysteries, problems, and enjoyments as is possible. On that front we’ve got advice on a myriad of business topics. First up is Nickel at FiveCentNickel.com who presents a Money Saving Tip: Live Next to Someone Who’s Moving. Hey, use every resource at hand! “Money saved is Money Earnedâ€??. That is called a Truism. Another inescapable Truism is that land (Real Estate) is Wealth. On that topic we’ve got a couple of entries. The first is from David A. Porter at Pacesetter Mortgage who answers the question: How much do I have to tell a mortgage broker about my stated income?. His answer is short and sweet – and a fact! The Bull worked as a Property Manager for over fifteen years. Same thing hold true in the Rental market. Samuel over at Nubricks Real Estate Investment Blog gives us Invest in Bulgarian Property good or bad idea?. Quite honestly, a subject above the limits of this Bull’s hay bale, but perhaps just the thing some of you are looking for as an investment. Something definitely worth a look-see.

Continuing along the Business thread, Victor Fam at Towards Better Life presents Guide Towards Better Life. This blog he list as being about “Financial Independence, Personal Growth, Motivation, Career, Goals, Wealth, Health, Success…?. These are all good things. Before you can get these things, assuming you were not born with the ol’ silver spoon in your mouth, you will eventually need a job. Hell, I miss mine! Well, FMF at Free Money Finance has some great tips on How to Answer Tricky Interview Questions. You’re going to need these. Pay attention!
Right on his heels, though, comes Pete with How to Avoid Greed? posted at My Financial Awareness. Yeah, so it isn’t exactly a business post. It seemed to fit perfectly in that spot though. One must keep a level head.

Peter Kua chimes in with After Innovation: Sustaining It posted at RadicalHop.com: Grow with Passion. Good advice, especially in this day and age of rapid innovation in every field. You know, I grew up hearing and reading about the Industrial Revolution. IMNSHO, that period in our history can’t hold a candle to today. We’ve just become used to new inventions and improvements to old ones coming at us at warp speed. Take, for example, these computers we’ve saddled ourselves with these days – and the Internet. Speaking thereof, Barry Welford at BPWrap – Internet Marketing From A Different Point Of View points out some good-to-know pointers on Google search results with his post Google Supplemental Results – A Word To The Wise. I swear, I learn something new everyday. Finally, I give you Big Picture Guy’s Code Sniper at Big Picture, Small Office. A nice post about the irritants we face everyday in the name of computer security and (possibly) the honesty of Man, (or lack thereof…).

The last “pureâ€?? business post I have to offer in this issue is Chuck Russell’s line on Bad Credit Car Tips posted at buyanauto. Look, it can happen to anyone. I myself went through a not-so-nice divorce with an ex-wife that loved to spend more than she liked telling me about it and then almost instantly found myself with a collapsed spinal column. Three and a half years passed before I saw my next penny – and that as a permanent disability check, (i.e.: not much.).

As I read Pamela Slim’s post entitled How can you find great mentors? at her blog Escape from Cubicle Nation, I nearly moved it into position in this Carnival. Why? Simply put, mentors are a huge part in a person’s success in all facets of Life – not just in Business. Reading the post The Bull thought back to his mentors, some long since having crossed through the Veil. “Mad? Jack, Jon “FireDancer? Wilson, Tom Harbin, and Grandpa Homer, just to name a few. I liked this post. Period.

Faith is probably a subject left to my “betters?. There are those that have devoted every waking minute of every day to the Mysteries, and those that have given just as much time towards denying those same Mysteries. Perhaps all matters of Faith, or the lack thereof, should be left to those folks. Not! Faith is far too personal for that. (Besides, it seems to me that when such things were the established norms a lot of people got burned at the stake.)Yes, The Bull is an Ordained Minister. Twice over. The Bull is also a confirmed Pagan. Not a “Christian-gone-Pagan?, not “satanist?, just “Pagan?. It says so right over there in my bio. Just because I’ve never been a Christian doesn’t mean I don’t understand Faith. Though I’m not an athiest doesn’t mean I can’t see how silly devout Faith can seem. The good news is that I’m not here to preach. I’m here to point the way to many a good post out there on the Web, and whether I feel as they is meaningless. To quote myself. “…one might even find information out there that will change ones opinion on a given topic?. On to the post!

Ahistoricality starts us off with New Sadducees posted at Ahistoricality concerning, as he put it, “…the true dividing lines in modern Judaismâ€??. Thanks. I learned something! Next up is Francois Tremblay who presents Goosing the Antithesis: Subjectivity of the Divine Will part 1 posted at Goosing the Antithesis. The Bull looks forward to reading the continuation of this posting. (Just as soon as I’m done with this Carnival.) Finally, on this subject is a posting from Jack Cluth at The People’s Republic of Seabrook who shows us just how “Out Thereâ€?? folks can get on matters of Faith in From the “Completely devoid of human decency” department. Not to mention how the reaction could just endanger our Freedoms as Americans. (Lady Beth will never believe how polite The Bull was on the topic of Fred Phelps…)

The Environment. It is supremely important to us all. It doesn’t matter if we wish to believe so or not. Loose clean air, clean water, we die. Simple. So I was actually surprised that there were not more postings on the topic. However, Riversider came through with Mudflats and Salt Marsh: vital habitats, and Effective Flood Defense posted at Save The Ribble!. In the UK or here in Mobile, Alabama, the facts are the same. I’ve seen first hand what damage can be done by flooding. Even more so since moving to the Gulf Coast and being visited by “Ivan? and “Katrina?.

We Humans are a real piece of work, aren’t we? We alone can alter our natural environment for the better or for the worse. We are indeed the Top of the Food Chain. No beast on the planet is any longer our “natural enemyâ€??. Yet there is an enemy of sorts that can bring us low – our own mind. Dr. Deborah Serani wrote for us The Black-and-White Of Low Self-Esteem posted at Dr. Deborah Serani. I fought this myself during my childhood years and still occasionally wonder if I really have a grip on it. Wayne Hurlbert who writes over at Business World speaks to us about Happiness Roundup posted at Business of Life. Let me quote a line she herself quotes: “Perhaps the most profound study Gilbert cites is about the disabled, showing that those who are permanently injured say they’d be willing to pay far less to undo their injuries than able-bodied people say they’d pay to prevent them.â€?? As a Disabled American myself, I have to admit that this is true. No matter how much I’ve bellowed about it in the past. Peter Kua tackles what is likely the toughest subject for us as a species: How Not to Fear Death: Part 4: Peaceful Death posted at RadicalHop.com by Peter Kua: Light Speed Personal Development. You can catch Part 5 here. Paul at Paul’s Tips speaks of a never-ending Human need in The number-one most important fact to understand if you want to get things done

The Treacherous Land of Politics & World Events:
Geez! If there is anywhere where I can dig a big enough hole to bury a Bull in it is here. Further, if there is a topic that can firmly end any hope of me hosting this Carnival in the future, it is this subject. You might say that I’m a tad hard-headed. Hence, the name. Like my namesake, once I take a stand I can be like a force of Nature if you should wish to move me. The Carnival of the Vanities is an open carnival with entries on this side of the fence, on that side of the fence, and those entries with a fence post firmly embedded between the gluteus maximus. Since discretion is the better part of valor I have decided that I will simply post the links to all of these fine posts without comment. Sue me.

Here we go!
Trent presents Stock Market Beat » Blog Archive » Pierced Perc Purveyors Unite! posted at Stock Market Beat.

Starling David Hunter presents Communist Chic, Capitalist Geek posted at The Business of America is Business.

Madeleine Begun Kane at Mad Kane’s Notables presents Coulter Heist. (…)

Whew! I made it! Now, on to the other stuff…

Occasionally one comes across a post somewhere on the Web that will make you read it twice. A posting that really makes you think. That’s what happened when I read Brandon Peele’s Is Cosmology for Quacks? posted at GT. Thanks for the brain-twister, Brandon! I liked it very much.

Then come the entries that are perhaps my favorites overall. The posts about Life. You know, the things that occur as we go about our silly little lives. Our stories. Among these we have Friends Today, Enemies Tomorrow on Koranteng’s Toli. Magazine Man at Somewhere On The Masthead charged me up with a series of post concerning a dog. One of these is In Which We Review The Butcher’s Bill. If you read this blog then you know we operate a Rescue here for Exotic Animals. Real suckers softies for critters, we are! Miriam at Miriam’s Ideas gave us Discouraged Librarian Wants New Job. Miriam, we’ve all had bosses somewhere off the deep end. Somehow, I don’t miss that part of working! Finally I present my favorite entry in this weeks Carnival: necks.htmlâ€??>When You Want To Wring Their Necks at Lemons and Lollipops. I laughed until I hurt! The Bull has six kids with age ranging from 19 to a set of four year old twin boys. I feel your pain!

As a last note I’ll ask you, Dear Reader, to take a moment to check out my post on this blog about our American Heroes in the United States Coast Guard here. These guys are Heroes whether we are at war or not. Let’s face facts, if you are in a marine environment and it all goes bad, those big white boats with the red stripes can look mighty good. Not to mention those blaze orange and white choppers! Even if we discount the work the Coast Guard does everyday protecting our coastlines and ports from the terrorist threat and the poison they keep from reaching our kids, The Bull imagines that the most jaded Blogger must acknowledge the everyday heroism of the USCG.

That raps up the Carnival of the Vanities #199. Feel free to flame me as you wish in the comments. (Just read the Rules first…)

Bull, out.

The Bull would like to take a moment, in these dark, pre-dawn, hours to salute American Heroes that often go completely un-noticed. Until you need them. The United States Coast Guard, and especially those units thereof that are currently stationed here in The Bull’s adopted hometown of Mobile, Alabama.

COAST GUARD EMBLEM.jpg USCG 8TH DISTRICT.jpg

First up, the Coast Guard Aviation Training Center. These superb aviators are seen daily flying over The Bull’s Pasture in their various aircraft. Quite a wonderful sight they are! Be not fooled by the name. These aircrews are not just here for training. When you are in the ‘Hurt Locker’, these are the folks that can – and will – get you to help P.D.Q. That’s not all. From the sunny Gulf Coast to the frigid waters of the far North, you will find these folks in the air. On mission and on time. Here is the mission statement from their own webpage:

“The Coast Guard Aviation Training Center in Mobile, Alabama is a multi-mission unit, acting as both the Coast Guard’s Flight School and as an operational Air Station. Training is conducted to qualify Coast Guard pilots in the HU-25, “Guardian,” The HH-60 “Jayhawk,” and the HH-65 “Dolphin.” These same pilots return once a year for a week long proficiency course in their designated airframe. Operations Division, which fly’s the HU-25, conducts Search and Rescue, Homeland Security, and Environmental Protection missions in an area of responsibility that extends from the Louisiana/Texas boarder to the eastern edge of the Florida panhandle. Also located at ATC Mobile is the Polar Operations Division who deploy the HH-65 around the globe in support of scientific research aboard the Coast Guard’s three Polar Icebreakers.”

Mobile, AL isn’t just an old, historied city on the Gulf Coast. It is one of our Great Nation’s major ports. Keeping shipping operating safely and in good order is a duty that falls to the Coast Guard as well. All of this, and keeping America’s ports, (and thereby you and me), safe from the terrorist murderers that threaten us falls to the next USCG group here in Mobile. The Brave Crews of:
The 87 foot Patrol Boats, CGC Cobia (WPB-87311) and CGC Stingray (WPB-87305); the 225 foot Seagoing Bouy Tender, CGC Cypress (WLB-210); the 175 foot Coastal Bouy Tender, CGC Barbara Mabrity (WLM-559); and last – but not least, the Inland Construction Tender, CGC Saginaw (WLIC-803).

Ever seen those shows where someone is out on rough seas and all of their past bad deeds come back to haunt them? Or perhaps where some yahoo with a big boat but little experience gets in way over his head – literally? Either way, someone is in need of some serious help from folks willing to put everything on the line to save a strangers life. When that occurs here we know that the heroes at the Search and Rescue Station – Dauphin Island (Mobile, AL) will come charging in. Help you can trust when your world has gone down the tubes. Bless them!

One last note; We are happy to be home to the Dauphin Island Recreational Complex. This is one of the military’s MWR facilities. (That’s “Morale, Well-Being, and Recreation”) This facility, and the others like it, are a wonderful resource for those we send into harms way. They provide many with a place to regroup with husbands, wives, and children. (see my previous post about the MWR program and the facilities offered here.) Sadly though, the ‘good people’ (ahem) in Washington D.C. have seen fit to close this facility and many others over the protest of the very people that need and use them. Please note that the military families pay for the privilege of using the MWR program. The facilities are not provided free of charge! Write to Washington, call your Senators and Congressmen. Let them know we want our troops to have someplace they can relax and once again become close to those they left behind.

Again, many thanks to our loyal United States Coast Guard. Mobile, AL is both proud of you all and glad you are here.

Semper Paratus!

JSF F-35

FORT WORTH, Texas, July 7, 2006 – The Lockheed Martin [NYSE; LMT] F-35 Joint Strike Fighter was officially named Lightning II, in a ceremony held today in Fort Worth, Texas.

The name echoes those of two formidable fighters from the past: the World War II-era Lockheed P-38 Lightning and the mid-1950s Lightning supersonic jet, built by English Electric.

“The F-35 Lightning II will carry on the legacy of two of the greatest and most capable fighter aircraft of all time,? said Ralph D. Heath, president of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. “Just as the P-38 and the British Lightning were at the top of their class during their day, the F-35 will redefine multi-role fighter capability in the 21st century.?

Attendees at the event included U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England and U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael Moseley, who announced the F-35’s new name. Also in attendance were U.S. Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn of Texas, U.S. Congresswoman Kay Granger of Fort Worth, and representatives from the eight nations that are partnering with the U.S. in the F-35’s development: the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey, Canada, Australia, Denmark and Norway.

“The F-35 Lightning II will be the centerpiece of airpower in the 21st century for America and our allies,â€?? Secretary England said. “Congratulations to the talented team of aerospace workers both in the United States and from our many international partners on reaching this important milestone.”

Gen. Moseley added, “This aircraft represents the fruits of lessons learned over a hundred years of flight and aerial combat. We’re excited about bringing it into our inventory, and warfighters around the globe are excited about flying it in defense of freedom.”

English Electric, maker of the Lightning jet, later became BAE Systems, a principal industrial partner on the JSF program. With its afterburners lit, the twin-engine jet could reach speeds of 1,500 miles per hour. Like the F-35, the Lightning in its day represented a profound leap ahead in capability compared to the aircraft it replaced. It remained in service until 1988, largely because of its exceptional performance.

Likewise, the P-38 Lightning was built by Lockheed, now Lockheed Martin, the JSF program’s prime contractor. During World War II, the P-38 scored the most aerial victories of any U.S. Army Air Forces fighter in the Pacific theater. Designed as a high-altitude interceptor, the sleek P-38 evolved into a versatile aircraft that was also used for dive bombing, level bombing, ground strafing and photo-reconnaissance missions.

The F-35 carries on both the Lightning name and its tradition of excellence. The Lightning II is a 5TH Generation, supersonic stealth fighter designed to replace a wide range of existing aircraft, including AV-8B Harriers, A-10s, F-16s, F/A-18 Hornets and United Kingdom Harrier GR.7s and Sea Harriers. The F-35 will be the most powerful single-engine fighter ever made.

Lockheed Martin is developing the F-35 with its principal industrial partners, Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems. Two separate, interchangeable F-35 engines are under development: the Pratt & Whitney F135 and the GE Rolls-Royce Fighter Engine Team F136.

The inaugural flight of the first F-35, a preproduction conventional takeoff and landing variant, is planned for later this year. Fifteen F-35s will undergo flight test, seven will be used for static testing and another will validate the aircraft’s radar signature.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin employs about 135,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2005 sales of $37.2 billion.

May the Lightning II fly high, fast, and unleash bolts of destruction upon the enemies of Liberty!

It is early. I’m the only one up. I’m bored. So, I go and adopt a ‘virtual’ pet. At least he is cheap to feed…

Adopt Your Own Virtual Pet!

What am I thinking?! I just fed 5 dogs, two cats, three kittens, and have yet to feed three pythons, four dragons, five ferrets, and one Uromastix lizard. (I fed the “big” snakes a couple of days ago. Lady Beth fed the geckos and the tarantulas.)

By the way, consider this a small reminder that these animals I’m talking about are RESCUED pets. We still operate Chaos & Critters Exotic Pet Rescue and we still need those donations in order to feed and care for these creatures until we can find them new, loving homes. Those donations are Tax Deductable as we are a 501(c)(3) organization.

Since I’m writing on my blog and not on the C&C website, (the rescue is Lady Beth’s baby), I can be as ‘real’ as I want. Frankly, I’ve been amazed at just how tight most folks are with their dollars. Oh, they talk a good game. They give to this, they give to that. They love all of God’s creatures, they hate to see or hear of animals being mistreated.

LZIL: file not found:
/home/omar/public_html/wp-content/beardeddragon.jpg
It is ALL just talk.

Chaos & Critters has exactly ONE regular contributor. (Thanks, Debbie!) A handful of people have made one time donations of 5 to 10 bucks. We appreciate every dime. Fact is though, each feeding of one python cost anywhere from $3.00 to $20.00, depending on the size of the animal. Have you priced dog, cat, and ferret food these days? Most of the dragons are vegitarians, yet they still go through a fair amount of greens – and, of course, the occasional handful of crickets or mealworms for each carnivorous dragon, (I’m not talkin’ Komodos here!). Then there is the power used to heat the all habitats, the substrates that need to be changed, the vitamins, and the real biggie: vet bills. You don’t want to know what we have spent in vet bills!

Come on, America! Get off your wallet and help us help these critters! They didn’t ask to be born into captivity and then abandoned. Help us keep the doors open and save more animals. We have saved 112 animals in less than a year. Mostly exotics. Being located in Mobile, Alabama we take in many animals everytime a tropical storm or hurricane blows in off the Gulf. We do not close, we do not evacuate. We stay with our animals. When “Katrina” hit we even had an eight-foot long Burmese Python xome in from New Orleans. I’m happy to report she recovered nicely and is now in a great home with someone that knows how to properly care for giant snakes and she is thriving. We CAN do more, with your help. Adopt a rescued animal, or send a donation. We have made it easy for you be setting up a PayPal account on the Rescue website.

It is Good Karma – and a Tax Deduction – for you. Next April 15th will be here before you know it!

Get with the program!

Take a look at his site. Look around, check for dust, you won’t find much in that line, but what you will fine is some down home musings, as well as insight and idea’s.

Spammers should all be hung by their family jewels until dead, or at the very least, impaled. This is a Universal Truth among serious Bloggers and anyone with an email account anywhere. One we all agree upon.

Now it seems that the email spammers have hit an all-time low. Below is an email I recieved this morning targeting Right-Thinking America’s desire to help and support our Armed Forces now in action in the Middle East. Check out this pile o’ horse crap…

Good Day,
I hope my email meets you well. I am in need of your assistance. My name is Sgt. Jarvis M. Reeves, Jr. I am in the Engineering military unit here in Ba’qubah in Iraq, we have some cash that we have moved out of Iraq. My colleagues and I need a good partner, someone we can trust. It is oil money and is legal.

However, it was moved out through a diplomatic means to Europe. The most important thing is that can we trust you once the funds get to you because we will give you 30 percent and you keep our own 70 percent and manager it untill when we leave Iraq. Your own part of this deal is to find a safe place where the funds can be sent or transferred to. Our own part is giving instructions to the firm that you will be contacting them for it. If you are interested I will furnish you with more details. But the whole process is simple and we must keep a low profile at all times.

Waiting for your urgent response.

Regards,
Sgt. Jarvis M Reeves, Jr.

No, this isn’t the first email of this kind to slither into my mailbox. I’ve had several. I’ve also had comments of this same ilk attempt to splatter this blog with filth. Thanks to the builders of the anti-comment spam plug-in Akismet, they have failed. What a plug-in! As of this writing Akismet has squashed in excess of 8850 spam comments on this blog alone – and that only since 20 Feb 2006! I don’t mean this to be an endorsement of that anti-spam plug-in, but it has certainly worked for me.

Folks, this sickens me. It is an outrage! To use our fighting men and women for illegal gain! Bah!

Methinks that there has to be someone out there that has a method with which we can take the offensive and do battle with these scum-bags. What we need is some means of accurately tracking down the spammers and then seeing to it that they are legally denied service by their providers.

Seriously disgusted,

Here’s to wishing our beloved Nation, the mighty United States of America, a very Happy Birthday!

Today we Americans celebrate 230 years of hard won Freedom. We have, indeed, found Life, Liberty, and (for the most part) Happiness. Over the years though we have paid a terrible price for all we have and hold dear. Not so much in dollar terms, but in the Heavenly Currency of our Heroes’ blood. In this year of 2006 we find ourselves once again at war and we are reminded daily of the high cost of our Freedoms.

“The Bull”, Lady Beth, and all of our little Herd wish all of you a happy Independence Day. We also would ask you to – regardless of your Faith – pray for those giving their time and their very Life’s Blood, not for some abstract cause, but for the most Noble of Causes. Freedom – for all of us, and for the people oppressed by tyrants and terrorist worldwide.

Just like they did in the Lexington Green on April 19th, 1775, for the following eight years, and for the two centuries since, Americans have willingly fought and died for Freedom. Let us not forget that we, too, once wore the yoke of Tyranny. We threw it off at great cost. Proving that Freedom is a worthy Cause cost us much more during the years from 1861 to 1865. Liberty was tried by fire – and was proved True. In 1917 we took that Truth to Europe. Again in 1941 we went to Europe, and to the Pacific, to fight for the Freedom of Mankind. Though those wars were won, the Fight for Liberty continued in Korea, Vietnam, the long Cold War, Kuwait, and today in places like Afghanistan and Iraq. Forever Faithful, our Heroes continue to protect us and our Constitution from “All enemies, both Foreign and Domestic”. The Founding Fathers knew one Truth about the fight for Liberty most of us have long forgotten:
It is a fight that will never end.

Our Armed Forces are our strong arms. However, what good are the arms without a strong spine to support them? Dear Readers, that “spine” is us. It is our duty, as American Citizens, to support our soldiers and sailors in any endeavor that we have sent them to accomplish. Do not forget, it was indeed We the People that sent those young men and women into harm’s way. The buck stops not with some politician, but with us – the Voters. We placed every one of those politicians in office to make these decisions. The burden is ours.

It is a burden I accept.

Frankly, I feel proud of the accomplishments so far and I am confident of Victory in this current war. Let us not forget that though we have been in Iran for some 3+ years, it took us eight (8) years of war and then several more afterwards to set our own house in order. We paid a much higher price in blood as well. Freedom, for anyone, is worth the struggle. Always. Those that complain so loudly are those that never consider where they got the Right to do so, where the Right to freely assemble with those of like mind comes from, or who continues to protect those Rights – again – from “All enemies, both Foreign and Domestic”.

No, I am not discouraged.
I am Confident.
I am Proud.
I am Free.
I am an American, and thankful for it!

Raising a glass to the Land of the Free on her Birthday,
Bull, out.  End of Article

I always thought that he lowest point on land on earth is at the Dead Sea, on the border of Jordan and Israel. The Dead Sea lies at 1,312 feet (400 meters) below sea level. I was wrong, (not a first, but nearly so…).

Turns out that the lowest known land point is hidden in the Bentley Subglacial Trench in Antartica. It is the deepest ice yet discovered and the world’s lowest elevation not under seawater. Elevation: 8382.5 feet below sea level (-2,555 m). This big bloody hole is the size of Mexico! (Hmmm… So *that’s* where we can put it.)

Note: the lowest undersea point is the Pacific Ocean’s Marianas Trench. It’s near Guam and is 35,840 feet (10,924 m) deep.

Like most Americans, my knowledge of North Korea and its commie-pinko dictator, KIM Jong Il, is based on news stories and recollections of American Heroes that fought on that bitter land in the 1950’s. (Bull particularly notes the service to our Nation of Tom Harbin, Sniper, USMC. Many thanks, Tom, for your service and for all you taught me.)

After the news of North Korea’s threats of a nuclear attack on the U.S. I thought I’d take a closer look. “Know thy enemy.” We have had to fight these bastards once. Sooner or later we will have to do it again. Perhaps “sooner”.

I shamelessly swiped the following from the CIA “World Factbook” website. Lots of good info there on all nations and nothing is going to violate National Security, unlike those traitors at the New York Times.

North Korea:

  • Population: 23,113,019 (July 2006 est.)

I’m feeling pretty damned blue these days. Not ‘blue’ as in moving to the Liberal Left, but ‘blue’ as in depressed over the state of America’s leadership. Our courts, our legislature, our President.

We’ve got Mexicans taking overthe SouthWest and President Bush doesn’t care to even acknowledge the situation. Perhaps because Jeb married one. Who knows?

We’ve got American citizens being gouged by oil companies seeking record profits and depending on the instability of the Middle East to prop up those profits even though we have enormous oil fields here in the United States and the technology to disconnect from the oil economy altogether, and the idiots in Congress couldn’t care less.

We’ve got traitorous, terrorist supporters under the name of The New York Times printing out the secrets of our war efforts while the black-robed morons of the Supreme Court with the Hamden Decision, turning terrorist loose due to the Geneva Convention rules that the terrorist do not recognize!

Then, to top it all off, we’ve got the freaks over at the United Nations wanting to put countries like communist China and Iran in charge of re-writing the Constitution of the United States of America in order to disarm those that disagree with Tyranny.

When I awoke this morning I found that the leadership of North Korea is threatening us with nuclear war. Hell, why not? It should be obvious to the entire world that America is on the down-slope with nary a handhold in site. The North Koreans are just taking advantage of a good (for them) situation.

Well, maybe, just maybe, there is still some small glimmer of Hope. Some sliver of Sanity still alive in America’s Heartland. For what time we have left with the Freedom of Speach still intact and the Constitution still in one piece, Bloggers like me and my friends across the Web will continue to put out the Good Word. If we can stave off the Hollywood weirdos and their bedmates, the Liberal Media, we just may be able to get out the Vote and turn this Nation back on track.

There is also one tiny shred of Good News coming down from North of the border this week as well. Seems that our Canadian neighbors are catching on that disarming the citizenry does – not – work and at least one of their leaders is seeking to roll back some of the silly firearm registration laws.

Perhaps you are tired of the Leftist Agenda and the blind trampling of your Rights and Freedoms as an American. If so, then simply make a Stand. As it has been said before: “If you don’t stand for something, then you will fall for anything.”

I am not annoying at all. In fact most people come to me for advice. Of course they annoy the hell out of me. But what can I do? I am smarter than most people.
