2006 September | The Bull Speaks! - Part 2

Call me old fashioned.

Go on, I mean it! I’m damned proud of being “old fashioned” in the way I’m rearing my kids. If the Liberal Moonbat Left, or anyone else, doesn’t like it then they can simply go to hell.

A few of the things I teach to, and then demand of my kids are…

  • Say “Please”, “Thank you”, “Sir”, and “Ma’am”,
  • Understand what the word “No” means,
  • Have a healthy respect for authority,
  • Wear clothes made for humans, and wear them as designed,
  • Don’t have televisions in their bedrooms, (There is only one in the house),
  • Watch only one hour of approved cartoons per day – and only if all else is done,
  • Have chores they must do and don’t get paid for,
  • Study hard and play hard. Each in its own time
  • Respect the Rights and Beliefs of others,
  • Know what they may and may not touch,
  • Understand that inanimate objects, like guns, are not and can never be “evil”,
  • Learn to handle and shoot guns under supervision at age 12,
  • Take responsibility for their own actions, both good and bad,
  • Know where their food comes from and that something, plant or animal, died to feed them,
  • Help clean up after meals, clean their rooms, and put their own dirty clothes in the laundry,
  • Stand up for what they believe to be Right and Just,
  • Honor and cherish the United States, her troops, and her flag
  • Honor, Love, and Obey their parents.

Of course there are others, but that’s a fair example.

Do I punish infractions? Damned skippy! Though ny eldest, (now 19), tells me I’ve gone soft since she was coming up most would still consider me draconian in my means of discipline. I also lavish praise on each child’s achievement, however small. Finally, Love is something they get in large doses everyday. Love surrounds them, with the animals we keep, the time we share, the memories we make, and the work we do. They know – beyond any doubt – they are Loved. Even on the rare occassions when they require punishment. They also see Love in their home. They see me and their Mom holding hands while we read or walk. They see us hug and kiss, and they hear the words “I love you” often, Between Lady Beth and me, and from us to each of them.

Does my method work? Well, it certainly seems to work. Six kids, ages 19 to 4 with the youngest two being twin boys. I can take any or all anywhere at any time without concern as I know just how well they will carry themselves. Only one, an 18 yr old girl, that gives me any concern and yet I know she will be fine and do well.

All-in-all, not bad for a tattooed, pierced, shaven-headed, Pagan ‘freak’. That’s right, I don’t look like the type. I look more like the guy you would warn your daughters about and fear your son will turn into one day. Yet I was reared with a set of expectations and a strong love of both my family and my Country. I intend to rear all of my children with that same set of REAL American values. Not the political versions thereof. And while you may not like it, you will certainly not stop me so long as I draw breath. You see, one other thing I was taught by my parents is that Americans fight for what they believe.

It just goes to show that you really can’t judge a book by its cover – not to mention this Dad!

Carol Ann LaPlante, 59, New York, N.Y., USA

Confirmed dead, World Trade Center, in building.

Carol Ann LaPlante

Carol was a Admin for Marsh & McLennan Cos. Inc. on the 97th floor. Here I quote her boss, Eileen McGuire: “She was a wonderful woman. Always ready to help and worked hard. She had a good sense of humor and a nice laugh. I miss Carol’s smile in the office.”

True Believer

Security cameras caught Carol LaPlante going to early Mass on the morning of Sept. 11, before she made her way to the office of Marsh & McLennan at the World Trade Center.

It was a good start for her last day on earth, said her friend and fellow parishioner, Ann McCarthy. For Ms. LaPlante’s real calling, “the star of her life,” Ms. McCarthy said, was St. Francis and the art gallery in the lobby of the friary. Ms. LaPlante ran the gallery as part of the St. Francis Creativity Group for many years, and it was recently renamed for her. She would have been 60 today.

“She was a poet and an artist, and while her paintings tended to be very cheerful and flowery, the poetry we found after her death seemed to say she was ready to go,” said Ms. McCarthy. “She wrote about going back to God, and of being a star in God’s heaven.” One of her poems, “Alice O’Connell’s Candle,” was written after the death last Christmas of another parishioner, a woman who wept as she lighted candles in the sanctuary. But Ms. McCarthy thinks it could be about Ms. LaPlante. Here is the final stanza:

So God has blown your candle out.
He has relit its light, no doubt,
Some place our eyes must wait to see:
A heaven’s star he made of thee.

9/11.

A date seared into the hearts and minds of all true Americans. This exercise has also burned into The Bull’s mind the name Carol Ann LaPlante. Never again will I think of 9/11 without thinking of her smile.

In Rememberance,

Lady Beth, you don’t want to bother reading any further. This is about “gun stuff“.

Don’t get me wrong. Lady Beth is not anti-gun. Heck, she has a CCW permit. She would also not hesitate to shoot your ass if you were to come messing around her family &/or home. No, she just isn’t in the middle of a life-long love affair like some of us. Of course, she’s still young and things can change…

There is a Gun & Knife Show here in Mobile, AL today. A Hunter’s Expo, too. With any luck I’ll get over to the Gun Show today. The jury is still out on the expo as I’ve not hunted in years. I miss it though. What I’ll be salivating over at the show will be any new barrels for the T/C Encore, any old Savage Model 99’s, (my Dad’s rifle of choice chambered for the old, but wonderful, 300 Savage. Still got it in the family somewhere. Wish it were here with me.), tricked out Ruger 10-22’s, Ruger Bisley revolvers (needed as a basis for my once-in-a-life custom hunting handgun), and gun leather.

Leather is a wonderful thing. Nothing beats the smell, or the feel, of quality leather. There is just something about a grand bit of thick cow hide wrapping a solid piece of engineering like a firearm. I have a beautiful Tombstone Speed Rig from El Paso Saddlery for my Ruger New Vaquero (RNV), and while it is as fast and as comfortable as a shoulder rig can get, it isn’t an everyday rig. Especially down here. What I need is a quality belt holster. Further, I can’t bring myself to order anything more from El Paso Saddlery after experiencing their negative form of ‘customer service’ first hand and hearing some 150+ other horror stories during my battle to get my rig sent to me. As I recently said on a forum, the holster feels more like a trophy taken in battle than a means of carrying my RNV! So, I’ve been looking around.

Mernickle Custom Holsters has a model known as the “Field Carry FC2″ that is offered in three variations. You may have it plain, fully carved, or my favorite – with special stingray inlay as shown here. Everything about this holster screams “custom”. It’s quick yet it holds the firearm securely. It can also be worn strong-side, or cross draw. The Bull likes it, and likes it a lot! This is a serious contender for a future belt holster. Mernickle has a vast selection of leather for everybody from the occasional shooter, to law enforcement, to those powder-smoke addicted SASS shooters, and even Quick Draw competitors. Every holster as beautiful and functional as the one before. You should definately make a stop by there.

Next up is a leather crafter from my “Holy Grail” state of Alaska. Their name says it all – Simply Rugged Holsters. I like that. They are much less concerned with appearance than function. I’ve got no problem at all with that concept. Besides, function itself is a thing of beauty. There are two models that catch my eye on their web site. The Sourdough Pancake (shown here) and the Texas Pancake. Like most of their holsters, both of these models do not require a strap to retain the gun. According to Rob and Jan Leahy, owners of Simply Rugged Holsters, the leather is of sufficient strength and is molded well enough to the gun to perform that “They will surpass the “One G testâ€?? of combat competition. In other words, you can take the holster and tip it upside down and the pistol will stay in place.” Heck, one of their customers dove intothe water and swan down a run-away boat with a 686 belted on his hip. His gun stayed put. That is about as tough a test as you can make. They pass the test. Simply Rugged.

Last, but certainly not least, is the work of my email friend, Terry over at Our Bandit Leather Crafters in Ravenna, OH. Terry is one of the few making a full line of both half flap and full flap field holsters. They maintained a site on eBay for quite a spell until (gasp!) a bit of a gun was seen inside the holster! Makes me sick. Even eBay is going over to the Liberal Left Moonbats, but I’m rambling. Terry is a true American Craftsman. The quality of his work is second to none. I had the honor of getting my hands on one of his full flap models at a SASS shoot in Pensacola, FL. I knew right then I had to see more. I’m glad I did, too! Terry’s Half Flap model shown here is the Top Pick in The Bull’s Gun Leather Search. Fully lined and ingeniously designed, this holster is the last word in the Battle of Protection/Retention vs. Speed of Draw. Note the design of the retention strap. With a downward movement of the hand the snap is opened just before the hand grasp the grip frame for the draw. Simple and smooth with unbeatable retention even in a fall. One look and I knew this was it. This is the holster I can trust to hold and protect my beloved Ruger New Vaquero. More, I know I can trust this leather to get said RNV into my hand should it be needed in a less-than-fun social moment. Stop by Terry’s web site and do a double take at those prices. I did. Quality and value. Makes The Bull’s Scottish blood get all warm and tingly. Keep stitchin’, Terry! My order for a left handed is coming soon!

America, meet the murderer of your children, your parents, and your self. His name is Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and he is the leader of todays radical Islamic Iran.

Murderer of Americans

This man wants you to convert to Islam, (His radical version of Islam.), or he wants you dead. There is no middle ground. Period. Even in his own country the ‘cleansing’ has begun. His latest move is to remove anyone not directly associated with Muslim radicals from the universities in Iran.

He is working hard to gain nuclear weapons and he is getting closer everyday. With the help of his friends at the United Nations some of you right here in America will one day soon wake up to the amazing view of a mushroom cloud or the news that your parents or your children have been vaporized – if they were lucky. If not, you will learn they are dying of acute radiation poisoning and are too ‘hot’ for you to get near. Just to make things better, remember that the Liberal Left here in America sides with these people and want you disarmed to make the mass murder on American soil easier. Moreover, Kofi Annan is doing everything he can to help them!

Make your choice, America.

We fight them over there, or we fight them here. Or you can simply hide in your homes as your neighbors who refuse to swear loyalty to Islam are beheaded in the streets of your own home town. Make your choice and be willing to live with the results of that choice.
Either way, stop whining!

The Bull refuses. I refuse to be told how to worship. I refuse to give up any of my Rights as guaranteed in the Constitution of the United States of America. I refuse to go down without a fight!  End of Article

Steve Irwin, ‘The Crocodile Hunter’, was killed by a stingray barb to the heart on Batt Reef, off the remote resort town of Port Douglas in northeastern Queensland state, his wildlife park Australia Zoo said in a statement.

Crew members aboard Irwin’s boat, Croc One, called emergency services in the nearest city, Cairns, and administered CPR as they rushed the boat to nearby Low Isle to meet a rescue helicopter. Medical staff pronounced Irwin dead a short time later, the statement said.

Steve is survived by his American wife, Terri, from Eugene, Ore., and their daughter, Bindi Sue, 8, and son, Bob, who will turn 3 in December.

Here at The Bull’s house we are a sad herd indeed. Steve Irwin was a fixture in our home and a hero to our children, and in many ways, to us as well. Every show was a learning opportunity for all of us. Steve’s “Australia Zoo“, which started with one man’s dream, has been an inspiration to our fledgling “Chaos and Critters Exotic Rescue“. We are deeply saddened at this loss to the World.

Terri, Bindi, and Bob,
Our hearts go out to you at this time of shock and grief. Indeed, to all of Australia. Take strength from the knowledge that Steve was doing exactly what he wanted to do and lived Life to its absolute fullest. You and the kids are like family to millions. The great nations of Australia and the United States will always be there for you.

CROCS RULE!

Sincerely,
The Bull  End of Article

A man and his ever-nagging wife went on vacation to Jerusalem. While they
were there, the wife passed away. The undertaker told the husband, “You can
have her shipped home for $5,000, or you can bury her here, in the Holy
Land, for $150.” The man thought about it and told him he would just have
her shipped home.

The undertaker asked, “Why would you spend $5,000 to ship your wife home,
when it would be wonderful to be buried here and you would spend only
$150?”

The man replied, “Long ago a man died here, was buried here, and three days
later he rose from the dead. I just can’t take that chance.”
