A Rant vs. the Food police!

Tue, 03 Oct 2006 07:28:04 -0400 by Bull

I’m gonna need a new catagory for this story…

Of late there have been some silly commercials floating across The Bull’s tv screen. One shows this large hand coming along and stealing a kid’s ice cream, trashing someone’s berger, and smacking a beer out of a guy’s hand. (Ha! Try that down here in South Alabama and see how quick your teeth are rattling around on the floor!) Anyhoo, the group putting out this commercial is The Center for Consumer Freedom.

After I stopped by their website I began to see that these folks are one the same page as The Bull when it comes to these idiotic “Food Police” out there. Folks, you can’t imagine some of the stupidity these people have in store for you, the average American. I urge you to go by the CCF web site and read for yourself. One such idiotic plan is to literally zone restaurants out of town. Sound like something that is too silly to happen? Well, how about labelling candy as “food porn” and hiding it behind the counter, or “carding” for candy, or a “sin-tax” on restaurants meals under four bucks?

Think it can’t happen? It is happening in hot spots of idiocy Worldwide! Let me quote from the Consumer Freedom’s “Ten Dumbest Food Cop Ideas” page…

Perhaps the worst idea of all is this one from Center for Science in the Public Interest’s Margo Wootan: “We’ve got to move beyond personal responsibility.” Wootan is hardly alone. Anti-soda crusader Harold Goldstein insists, “The delusion is that we all make free choices.” And when the World Health Organization added a line referencing the “exercise of individual responsibility” to its anti-obesity strategy, CSPI raged: “Obesity is not merely a matter of individual responsibility. Such suggestions are naive and simplistic.” Speaking of simplistic, lawsuit cheerleader John Banzhaf sums up the notion of personal responsibility as “crap.”

How do you like that, America? That is what is expected of you. To “move beyond personal responsibility” and let the Government handle everything including your food choices. Look, the fact is that the minute someone starts telling you what you can and can not eat, you are dealing with Communisim or a Cult. End of report. In either case, I’d gladly join in civil war over such actions. How sickening!

Let’s hope the word gets out soon. CSPI Executive Director Michael Jacobson has a dream of Americans eating like 18th century serfs — feasting “on perhaps a pound of bread, a spud, and a couple of carrots per day.”

Sound yummy to you? If so, you can have mine! I’ll settle for a nice Prime Rib, slice of cheese and a tall glass of ice tea or two.

Foolishness.

Try this out. It, at least, has the advantage of being true…

Um, yea, I don’t like the idea of The Man interfering with what I choose to put in my mouth.

I’m not obese and I don’t really know what makes people obese, but I eat and drink in moderation, and I certainly don’t need this “anti-soda crusader” taking away what is not only “free choices” but RIGHTS!
