Do it, Fred!
WASHINGTON â€??? “Law and Order” star and former Tennessee Republican Sen. Fred Thompson is weighing a bid for the White House in 2008, he told Chris Wallace on “FOX News Sunday.”
“I’m going to wait and see what happens,” Thompson said. “I want to see my colleagues on the campaign trial, what they say, what they emphasize, whether they can carry the ball next November.”
Thompson, 64, who plays district attorney Arthur Branch on NBC’s drama, said he was pondering a run after former Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker and other Tennessee Republicans began drumming up support for his possible Republican candidacy, citing his conservative credentials.
“I think people are somewhat disillusioned. A lot of people are cynical out there. They’re looking for something different,” he said.
The Bull senses a “near Reagan” poking at the White House race. Should Fred Thompson run, he will have The Bull’s complete support! “Uncle Ronnie” is lost to us through the Veil, but Fred is as close to a new incarnation of “the Gipper” than we’ve seen so far. He’s right, too. We are disillusioned here in the Real World, (As opposed to the Lunatic Fringe on the Left who apparently didn’t come back from their last acid trip.). Furthermore, Fred is also ‘Right’. Conservative enough to satisfy all but the most radical Right-wing evangelical.
Check it out:
- â€???Is “pro-life,” and believes federal judges should reexamine the Supreme Court’s landmark Roe v. Wade decision of 1973 which established a woman’s right to an abortion.
- â€???Opposes gay marriage, but would let states decide whether to allow civil unions. “Marriage is between a man and a woman, and judges shouldn’t be allowed to change that.”
- â€???Supports President George W. Bush’s decision to increase troops in Iraq. “Wars are full of mistakes. You rectify them. I think we are doing that now,” he said. “We’ve got to give it a chance to work.”
- â€???Would pardon former White House aide I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby’s conviction for perjury and obstruction of justice now, rather than waiting until all his appeals are exhausted. Libby was found guilty of perjury and obstruction in the investigation into the 2003 leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame’s identity. Fred says that Libby is “bearing the political brunt of something that should’ve never come about,” and noted that “practically every witness at trial had inconsistent statements.”
Oh, there is more. Much more. Believe me, this guy is the real McCoy. I hope Fred sees fit to jump in. As you, my Dear Reader, are aware, The Bull lives on a tight – extremely tight – personal budget. (Disability when one has six kids will do that to you.) However, I’ll toss what change I have to the ‘Fred Thompson for President’ campaign. Count on it!
The only question is if the skeletons in Fred’s past, (we all have them), what ever they may be, a small and dusty enough to be missed by Hillary’s ‘Bitch for President’ campaign mud-slingers to miss…
Go get’um, Fred! Alabama is, (rather, will be), behind you all the way to the Oval Office!
Bull, out!
