2007 September | The Bull Speaks!

Here’s one for you…

You may have seen the following picture in one of those spam emails that crowd your mailbox. If so, you didn’t get the Truth of the story. The Bull is going to set the record straight right now!

Gator Gar

First off, this photo has not been tinkered with at all. The fish, an Alligator Gar, really is that big! This critter weighed in at 244.5 pounds and had an overall length of 8 feet 2 inches. That was good enough for the Texas state record books. It was taken by Robin Parks, (from Missouri), while bowfishing at the Sam Rayburn Reservoir, Texas in 2005. This fish holds the Bowfishing Association Of America World Record. The complete story of how this monster was landed can be found here.

The silly email stuffer falsely tags the fish as weighing 327 pounds and has it being caught in the Broken Bow Lake, Oklahoma. (Probably just the Oklahoma/Texas rivalry popping up. ) At any rate, alligator gar are not responsible for the disappearance of people in Oklahoma lakes – or anywhere else! Don’t be silly! Granted, likely no freshwater species of fish looks so fierce or so deadly. It’s tendency to grow to enormous size and the massive numbers of needle sharp teeth make it a real threat – to other fish. Again, Humans are not on the menu. There have been reports of gar taking nibbles at dangling toes and fingers, but no fatalities. (It would make for a good monster movie for the SciFi Channel though.)

In an ichthyological report on the Alligator Gar for the Florida Museum of Natural History, Nathaniel Goddard writes the following:

Alligator gars have two rows of teeth. The inner row of teeth is palatine and is longer than the outer row of teeth. The teeth of the alligator gar are long, slander, and fang like, enabling these fish to pierce and hold their prey.

Gator Gar teeth

Alligator gars appear sluggish, however they are voracious predators. Gars are ambush predators, primarily piscivores, they lay still in the water until an unsuspecting fish swims by, and then lunging forward and lashing the head from side to side in order to capture prey. Many times gars will lay still at the top of the water for long periods of time, appearing to be merely a log. The alligator gars’ diet consists primarily of fish. However, brackish water populations of alligator gar are known to feed heavily on blue crabs in addition to fish such as the hardhead catfish. This gar is also known to prey on waterfowl and other birds, small mammals, turtles, and carrion. Alligator gars have been reported to attack duck decoys and eat injured waterfowl shot by hunters

Due to its large size and sharp teeth, the alligator gar is capable of delivering a serious bite wound to fisherman or swimmers. However, there is no documentation of attacks on man by alligator gars. The eggs are poisonous, causing illness if consumed by humans.

Mr. Goddard goes on to point out one last fact about this magnificent monster of America’s waters. It seems the Alligator Gar is becoming increasingly rare and is classified as such in Missouri. The fish is considered threatened in Illinois, and endangered in Arkansas, Kentucky, and is soon to be in Tennessee. At the moment we still seem to have a fair number here in the brackish water of the Gulf Coast and Mobile-Tensaw Delta but the numbers are definitely on the decline.

By the way: The largest recorded Alligator Gar of all time was a 350 lbs fish caught in the Saint Francis River, Arkansas back in the 1930’s.

It is sometimes shocking when one discovers what lives just beneath the surface, isn’t it?

Would you like to start a nice argument on a forum? Well, here’s a good way to do it…

A while back I ran low on primers – very low. Local shops did not have my usual brand and style of pistol primers, and my Scottish blood wouldn’t let me pay a hazard fee to mail order the things. The locals also were out of my back-up type. So, I bought some magnum type lg. pistol to get me through.

Then, I made my mistake… I dared to ask on a forum as to how much change I should expect in my 45 Colt loads! The HORROR!

You’d think a war had started. I got everything from “Don’t fret – load and SHOOT!” (from John Taffin and about half the group), – to – “You’ll blow your gun to hell and gone!” (from the other half of the yahoos).

Seems there are some serious disagreements on how primers effect the pressure levels in pistol cases – especially the big ones like the .45 Colt. I ended up just starting from scratch and rebuilding my loads just to be safe. Here’s what I’ve found from my trials:

  1. In modern guns and with moderate loads, it makes no real difference.
  2. With the slower burning powders magnum primers can be a benefit to ignition.
  3. With the use of the ‘Holy Black’, (that’s black powder for you ‘guns are evil’ Socialist out there), magnum primers are a very good thing! A 255gr SWC slug at just shy of 1000 ft/sec with all of the smoke, fire, and ROAR! from a 4 5/8 inch barrel.
  4. In the .45 Colt, (and I suspect any case from the .41 Magnum up), don’t fret unless you are near the top end of the pressure scale for our gun.
  5. It’s about accuracy, not that last 30 feet per second or 25 ft/lbs.
  6. Finally, you can avoid the entire issue by using Winchester Lg. Pistol primers when you work up your loads. There are no regular or magnum, just WLP.

One last note: Seems there must be a new addition to the .45 Colt lore. We have those old beauties, the early gen 1 & 2 Colts that are best viewed, not shot (IMHO). Then we have the later Colt SAA’s, the Ruger Blackhawk/Vaqueros, then the carbines and T/Cs. Now we need to add yet another level of power in the oldest .45 – the Ruger NEW Vaquero. This sweet little gun fits right between the Colt SAA and the Ruger Blackhawk/Vaquero in the strength of its frame. The cylinder is somewhat stronger than its Colt counterpart.

Despite the SAAMI limit of 14,000psi for the .45 Colt, it seems that loads keeping to no more than 21,000 – 22,000psi are safe enough in this little Ruger on a daily basis according to the better known gun writers of the day and my experience. DO NOT use the powerhouse loads listed for Ruger in the manuals. I spoke to Ruger Co. myself and was told that the RNV is proofed with the same load that the Blackhawk is – but they refuse to specify for legal reasons.

As is usually added at this point, “Your Mileage May Vary”. Load and fire at your own risk! Don’t go suing me if you blow up your firearm. Besides, I’ve got nothing worth taking anyway

Avoid the hassles – restock your loading supplies often!

Zogby: Congress Gets Just 11% Approval, Lowest Ever

President George W. Bush and the U.S. Congress registered record-low approval ratings in a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday, and a new monthly index measuring the mood of Americans dipped slightly on deepening worries about the economy.

Only 29 percent of Americans gave Bush a positive grade for his job
performance, below his worst Zogby poll mark of 30 percent in March. A paltry 11 percent rated Congress positively, beating the previous low of 14 percent in July.

Methinks that this is going to be a short-lived shot at Congress for a lot of the loons in office now. So be it! The bums should be thrown out – and on both sides of the isle!

It’s time America got busy with a different lot of Senators and Representatives. Sure, they may be as dirty as the ones we have now, but if we keep throwing them out after one or two terms you will see people that feel the calling to serve America coming to the job rather than the career politicians. Those guys like to say that they don’t need a term limit law because the citizens can vote them out if they please, (Of course they’d balk at allowing the President to serve more than two terms…), so let’s give them what they want!

The Bull has been paying attention to the Report that General Petraeus has offered to Congress and I have a few things that came to mind that I’d like to share. Some will want to attack me on my stance, so I’ll try to stop some of the critics before they start…

  • I hold no elected office, nor do I want to in the future.
  • I am not, nor have I ever been, a military officer. I was just another enlisted puke in the USN back in the early 1980’s. Over the years I have lost friends and loved ones over the years to stupid accident, illness, in training accidents, shipboard mishaps, and combat. I did my bit, enough to where I am under the care of the medical arm of the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, (spinal injuries), probably for the rest of my life.
  • I am the father of three fine children and step-father to three more, (though that last three call me “Dad” just like the first). One of my children recently enlisted and three more want to when they reach the proper age.

All of this – as well as being a Voting, tax-paying Citizen of the U.S. and being subject to the Constitution of the U.S. – I figure gives me the Right to speak without too many snide remarks from the peanut gallery.
***

On Congress: Frankly, I’ll take the word of any General (or any other military puke) over that of any politician – any day.

Why?

Because my personal belief is that our political system has one major flaw – no term limits for the fools in Congress. They get in there, get dirty, and stay. Politicians tend to forget that they work for us, where as Generals are always hearing from someone above them. (Note: I do recall that the politicians got a ‘reminder’ of who pays their salaries with the Amnesty bill they tried to sneak through!)

Further, doesn’t the Senate have to confirm the appointment of Generals, and didn’t the Senate confirm this General for the position he now holds? So, does that mean that they can’t trust the guy they put into the job? ;-)

Congress gets to keep the purse. That is their Constitutional roll. If they have the political will, let them de-fund the war, but keep out of areas that are not theirs!

On Bush: On the economy, Bush has done exceedingly well for us. Gas is up, but that would have happened anyway. He screwed the pooch when it comes to Iraq. Period, end of report. (He’s been pretty bone-headed about immigration as well…)IMO, his worst mistake was in not taking his case to the American people and keeping us informed. This isn’t the 1940’s. Americans are used to having more info at their disposal than Pres. Bush has been willing to give. (Perhaps we are too used to having all the info avail.) Where I will give points to the President is in his refusal to conduct the war via poll numbers and his willingness to fight Congress as they attempt to seize powers granted to the President by the Constitution.

On the War: I do not consider ‘the war’ to be Iraq. Nor is it Afghanistan. It is a war against terror and terrorist. I’m no general, nor do I generally go around arm-chair quarterbacking other folk’s games, but it doesn’t take much to see that this war is going to be different from anything we’ve ever seen before. The ‘old’ rules do not apply and we are going to have our hands full for years or maybe decades and in a lot more areas that just Iraq. I keep hearing the ‘talking heads’ on the tube saying that it is better to fight them there rather than here. I agree! I don’t want that carnage on the streets of Mobile, AL among my wife and kids. It may be a different kind of war, but it remains a war. People die and things get broken. Such is the nature of war. Yet, still better there than here! Better anywhere than in America.

On our Military: Three kinds of people like to talk trash about our people in the Armed Services: 1) Hippie left-overs, 2) Liberal idiots from the FAR Left, and 3) Service personnel themselves.

As far as I’m concerned groups #1 and #2 can take a long walk on a short pier.

Group #3 retains its Right to self-abuse and inter-service rivalry due to their continued Loyal service and Sacrifices of blood, limbs, and lives for our Freedom.

It is often said that the American kid is the most spoiled, over-fed, over-sexed brat on the face of the Earth. American kids have everything. Life it far too easy and it makes them soft. I think those that say such things are quite right. What they failed to mention, though, is that those soft and tender kids – when put to the test – become the meanest, hardest, best trained, most intelligent fighting force the World has ever seen. War after war, decade after decade, American kids in uniform perform above and beyond any call of Duty and willingly sacrifice themselves for Freedom’s sake. No better men and women are to be found anywhere on Earth nor in any other time.

Final Thought: The one thing that the politicians, in their haste to smear a good man, Petraeus, and their eagerness to make political hay by abandoning the troops in a war that they voted to start, tend to forget is these facts:

  1. The Armed Services also have the Right to Vote.
  2. They also tend to have long memories.

Enough already!

We, (well, those of us with half a brain), all knew a very long time ago that the no-talent crack-whore Brittany Spears was overdue for her plummet to the garbage bin floor. How the heck is it news that she went out on stage and flopped? What do you expect from a drugged out fool? The Bull found a perfect description of Spears on one news website:

…Spears â€??? who couldn’t sing so well in the first place and was at best a burlesque cheerleader in dancing â€??? has probably squandered a significant amount of her audience.

Couldn’t have said it better myself!

Why not more news on REAL success stories? If it must be about music stars, let’s go with someone like Alicia Keys. Now there is real talent! A classy, beautiful woman with a voice that has to be heard to be believed and a talent on the keyboard nothing short of amazing.

Better yet, how about someone like my beloved wife. Lady Beth can’t sing a note. Doesn’t play any instrument. She does, however, work hard to support this family, takes care of her children and step-children, and loves and cares for her disabled husband. She works to learn everything she can about her job and every other job at the clinic, then comes home and works with sick, unwanted, and sometimes disabled exotic animals from the pet trade. Lady Beth still makes time for the extended family and friends. All of this and she is stunningly beautiful, (without any plastic surgery or ‘enhancements’)!

No, I’ll not post a photo! (At least not right now.) The Bull is keeping those to himself.

We’ve all heard of the famous ‘Hanging Judge’ of the Old West, Issac Parker, who in 21 years on the bench sentenced 160 men to die and hanged 79 of them. Well, Alabama has that beat!
Read on…

The Bull is saddened, disgusted, and down right pissed off to learn of allegations against Circuit Judge Herman Thomas spanked Mobile Metro Jail inmates. Let that sink in a moment…

Spanked.

A sitting judge, Circuit Judge Herman Thomas, allegedly signed inmates out of jail, took them to a small room near his chambers and asked them to drop their pants to be paddled.

Makes one want to hurl, doesn’t it?

Circuit Judge Herman Thomas, the “Spanking Judge of Mobile, AL?

Now, I don’t know about you, Dear Reader, but that sounds like we have another pervert in an office that we can ill afford to go bad. Now, Judge Thomas is no stranger to controversy. To date he has not yet been charged with any criminal action, (won’t be long though), but he has been accused of doing favors for high-profile defendants, transferred other judges’ criminal cases to his own docket, changed sentences and sometimes even caused inmates to be released, and more. All of these charges were brought by his fellow Justices! The charges piled up to such an extent that the Judicial Inquiry Commission ordered Thomas suspended from the bench pending a trial.

And now this…

If Judge Thomas finds himself convicted of judicial misconduct, (…and can there be any doubt?), then every criminal case disposed of by Judge Thomas will have to be re-investigated. How many criminals – from murderers to child molesters and drug dealers – will hit the streets again due to the actions of this power-mad sicko in black robes? How many criminals will walk free due to civil rights violations? The Gods know that there will be an metric-shyte-load of those cases brought against Judge Thomas now that this ’spanking’ thing ha gone public.

Circuit Judge Herman Thomas, the “Spanking Judge of Mobile, AL”, refuses to resign. Considering his lack of concern of the judiciary, The Bull is not surprised. I guess we’ll have to wait to see him removed from the bench permanently as well. If the State of Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission knows what is good for it, the State, and Justice, then they will work fast. There is going to be a long hard row to hoe to clear the weeds from ‘Judge‘ {insert gagging sound here} Thomas’ Garden of Disgust.

This first bit is from Fox News Online

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. ??

A city councilman apparently committed suicide Friday, hours after he resigned amid allegations he sexually abused two teenage girls and a woman, authorities said.

John Bryan, pedophile

John Bryan, 56, was found by a reporter for the St. Petersburg Times, slumped in a golf cart in the garage of Floral City home he owned. Paramedics were called and pronounced Bryan dead, Citrus County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Gail Tierney said.

(Click here to read MyFOXTampaBay.com’s report on the pedophile/politician’s suicide.)

A riding lawn mower was running in the garage and two nearby four-wheelers also appeared to have been running at some point but were out of gas. Officers found a suicide note in the house, but Tierney said she did not know what it said.

Bryan was being investigated for sexually abusing three females, said Ron Stuart, spokesman for the Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Court.

A pedophile politician. Dear Reader, that is enough to make a billy goat puke. Yet another reason to throw all of the politicians out of office and start over. I digress…

From the St. Pete coverage The Bull dug out the following:

According to court sources, a female who used to be in the Bryan home – who is now an adult – came forward claiming she had a sexual relationship with him that began when she was still a minor. She also claimed Bryan had sex with his two adopted teenage daughters.

Bryan claimed in court that the relationship with the older girl took place after she became an adult – and was consensual. He denied having any sexual relationship with the two younger girls.

His teenage adopted daughters? Sick mofo…
Of course he denied it all! Guilty or innocent, who wouldn’t? His following actions tell the tale, though. Allegations could happen to anyone. Why commit suicide? Why do so by a method that gives you so long to think about it why you go under? No, The Bull is satisfied that this bastard was as guilty as the day is long. Those daughters of his need to be seeing a doctor and a councilor pronto!

Well, the good Citizens of St. Pete, FL can sleep a little better tonight knowing that at least one of these sick pedophile sons of bitches did the right thing and ’self-corrected’. Further, the pervert has saved them one heck of a tax bill for his trial, his appeals, and finally – his incarceration under guard to keep him from being routinely corn-holed and eventually stabbed to death by a fellow inmate. ‘Regular’ inmates have a “rule” about pedophiles: “Abuse and kill”. Works for me! The Bull doesn’t think there is enough punishment for these child molesting bastards.

The Bull’s demand for the execution of sexual predators is the correct way to go. Seems the perverts agree that they should die when caught. Of course, most don’t have the cojones to do the job themselves. The only people they have the strength to attack are those smaller and weaker than themselves.

:!: One more child molesting SOB assuming room temperature :!: You know I love it.

Terror leader Usama bin Laden plans to address Americans on the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks in a new video, according to a terror monitoring group.

Save your breath, you sorry sack of pig shyte.

Bin Laden, or any other terrorist has nothing to say that any REAL American wants to hear – with the possible exception of “We surrender!“, or “Please don’t shoot me!” (just before my rifle fires).

Meanwhile, federal counter-terrorism officials are analyzing a posting on an Islamic forum Web site that warns of “a special gift” to be given on the sixth anniversary of Sept. 11…

The Bull doubts it. For the sake of argument though, let’s say they do manage to pull off another attack. All that they will have accomplished will to piss off the American public again and guarantee a Republican victory in 2008.

Dumb-assed terrorist.
