Excellent post, Bull. I'm a neuroscientist and just published a book about sex differences, "Pink Brain, Blue Brain: How Small Differences Grow Into Troublesome Gaps - And What We Can Do About It." I'm not saying there are no innate differences between boys and girls, but do document what the science really finds: small differences that are amplified by parents, peers, and our strongly gender-divided culture. The human brain is remarkably "plastic": men can be nurturing and very verbal; women heroic and scientists; a lot of it is what we expect and how we raise them.

I am very troubled by this movement toward public single-sex schools, especially since it is justified with trash science. The real data show much more similarity than difference between boys and girls, as your daughter and now policewoman Kimberly Munley (who took out the Fort Hood shooter)have proven.

Bull this is absolutely outrageous and seems to be sending education back to the middle ages--and frighteningly close to the idea of "creeping" shari'a. Absolutely unbelievable! I fully understand why you *gulp* wrote to the ACLU about this--sometimes we have to grasp an "enemy's" hand to stop something absurd and this is where the ACLU excels--the absurd.

Please, PLEASE keep me updated on this situation and may I ask permission to cross these articles?

Why should anyone seperate males from females. what happened to the U.S Constitution. all men are created equal. What happened to that saying? The children are truely the future, now what kind of examples we're setting if we encourage such a behavior to our youth?

Segregation in public schools by sex is discrimination of he worst sort. The idiotic statement that children have no rights not only reveals the intelligence level of the person making it (low) but also must have some legal ramifications. The law that allows this could and should be challenged in court as it deprives not only children but their parents of rights--check with some legal eagle on that.

All that hogwash about female inferiority is just that--hogwash. Look at our military, where females are doing the same jobs as males.

Outstripping the garbage psychobabble about boys and math, etc., the difference is not gender, but verbal skills vs. mathematical skills. Some people have both, I am male but I know more than one female that can run rings around me in math--differential calculus, integral calculus, differential equations, what have you.

Single-gender classes deprive children of developing social skills in dealing with the opposite sex and make that sex into an unknown area.

Being a mother of 2 children myself, I find even the concept of segregated public schools to be absurd. This is just another reason to add to my list of reasons for schooling my children at home. Public schools and the rest of America seems to be taking a giant nose-dive into trouble. God have mercy on us all.

I believe we should separate these educational leaders by sex for the rest of their lives so they cannot reproduce and produce more idiots.

I have absolutely no problem with separating classes into male and female. There are wonderful all boys and all girls private schools in this nation that have excellent results. I do believe that separation by sex may actually help with better discipline in classrooms.

The problem is that the school in question is a PUBLIC school, funded by tax payer dollars and supposedly run by elected officials. A principal should never be allowed to make such drastic changes on his/her own.

The mere segregation by sex is no big deal in and of itself, in my opinion, just not in its context in this particular instance.

i'm not an american and i've never been to your country, but i have several friends there. so maybe it's not my place to say this but i need an answer to a question that has been bothering me for quite some time. for Christ's sake man, you people had Woodstock, you are the land of the Free and the home of the Brave... for a long time America meant freedom for me and i wanted more than anything to be a part of this great people. but not anymore. what happened? where is america i knew? what went wrong? and most of all why are there so few americans who fight for their rights? and where is Christopher Columbus when you need him? perhaps a faulty leadership turned the american people into an ignorant people. ignorant even of itself. i like it when people fight for what is rightfully theirs. i'm a bit confused about why people should fight, but i guess i'm an utopian. keep up with the good work . people like you, who raise issues, and try to make a difference may bring america to its former statute of Cradle of Democracy. take care

It's just one more example of big brother taking a freedom of choice and tradition away for what they feel is the "greater good" without any concern for what others may think. Are these kids going to be segregated in life? I don't think so.

I think my daughter's school district was trying to do the exact same thing. At the end of last school year they sent a questionnaire out asking if we would be interested in our child being segregated by gender. I of course put no and haven't heard anything else about it.

Don't let this little tyrant speak for everyone in the district. Start calling your state senators and congress and don't give up. If they don't do anything keep calling and bugging them. Also give complaints to the superintendent and write your local papers. Get the community involved in anyway that you can.

Hang in there and God bless.

Many Thanks to TexasFred for helping to get the word out concerning this outrage, and to each and every person that has taken the time to stop by and leave a comment. I know you all have busy lives and it means a lot to me and my family that you are supporting us in this contest of wills over what is Right.

It seems that a lot of folk are for sure interested in the story. I've been informed that the Fox News Network is looking at the story.

The ACLU has been officially informed. There are a few cases being litigated now elsewhere in the Country. So far, to the best of my knowledge, of the cases completed this insane notion has been shot down at every turn. Let's hope that the ACLU, (gag) picks up this ball and runs with it.

Keep the fight alive! Send the link, or the entire story, to everyone you know. Let's FIGHT!

Wow. I don't have children in school and when I do I will not be sending them to public schools even if I have to sell my soul to pay for.

It is very true that men and women think & learn differently. It is also true that different races think & learn differently. Both of those statements are in general. Within the same race and sex you can have many different types of learning styles as well.

That being said, it is very wrong to separate people based on any of these reasons. At the very least it will rob the students of the social skills needed to excel at just about anything in "the real world"

Just as disturbing is the students have no rights statement. Of course there are some restrictions on privacy rights and such (locker searches et al) depending on the school - but to say that students have "no rights" is absurd. What's next - Torture?

It would seem that this type of sex segregation would make Muslims happy for sure - the rest of the people, not so much.

Just as disturbing is the students have no rights statement. Of course there are some restrictions on privacy rights and such (locker searches et al) depending on the school – but to say that students have “no rights” is absurd. What’s next – Torture?

It would seem that this type of sex segregation would make Muslims happy for sure – the rest of the people, not so much.

I am on the road visiting our 2 yr old grandson. Normally, I let nothing interfere but wanted to thank The Bull for this posting. As an educator for many years, I admit that their is a difference in the ways boys and girls develop and respond to education. However, it is also true that when boys and girls are separated, they are often denied full and complete access to education because of the predetermined biases of the teachers involved. It is the bias that I am most concerned about but we can all well imagine another agenda at work as well in this process when parents were not consulted,

Bias can go two ways. Past research has shown that even though female teachers tended to make excuses for boys, they usually pushed them to excel evidencing a maternal bias toward the boys. At the same time, these same (majority) of female teachers were also allowing excuses for girls while dumbing down their level of expectations for the girls. This often occurs in math and the sciences.

No one is denying the differences in the sexes -- "viva la deference." But separating the sexes in regard to fundamental education in middle school and secondary schools is at best questionable. If educators would focus on the fundamental building blocks of education, verses the adding extraneous items that detract from the fundamental education, our student nationally would not have over a 50% remediation rate in English and math. Education is failing the students, parents and society.

I also agree with the Mad Irishman who said, "Please visit http://letsgetthisright.com This is exactly the type of thing our conservative movement will help with." Ask yourself, which group, conservatives or liberals, are destroying or "wasting" the valuable education time that is allotted for the education of America's children.

Have more to say but the grandson wants to type for a while :)
