AL | The Bull Speaks!

From NBC Local 15 News, Mobile AL (Reported by: Andrea Ramey)

MOBILE, Ala.) - Mobile may be able to boast the world’s tiniest baby! In August, a set of triplets was born at University of South Alabama Children’s and Women’s Hospital. The tiniest in the set broke the record for the world’s smallest surviving baby at nine point one ounces (9.1 oz.!).

Doctors are calling Oliviyanna, Oriyanna, and Tayvanna three tiny miracles. Collectively at birth they weighed less than four pounds!

“I just started praying and asking God to help them through the way,” said the triplets mother, sixteen- year-old Jamesha Harbin.

The tiniest of the three, little Oliviyanna, is not just proving miracles exist, she’s breaking a record for what might be the world’s smallest surviving baby!

When Oliviyanna was born, she weighed less than a soda can. Today, she weighs three point two pounds.

Sixteen, unmarried, and the mother of not one but three special needs babies. (The needs of special babies is something that we know about here in The Pasture. Our youngest sons, fraternal twins, were tiny, and premature. The expenses and the stress was horrendous but were handled by family, faith, and hard work on the part of both the care-givers and the bread-winners.  Not State-funded, (read as: “tax-payer funded”), welfare.) Upon hearing me rant about this story my 15 year old son informed me that there are at least a half a dozen girls in his 8th grade class expecting babies before the term is over. “Who knows“, he said, “this record may not stand very long.”

One more record that the City of Mobile, and the State of Alabama does not need.

Seriously now, I pray for the health and well-being of these three innocents – and for the grandparent who will have to raise them and us tax-paying Citizens who will be paying for it all.

At some point this Country HAS to wake up and do something about the run-away spending we are doing on welfare and the other ills that it brings. Friends, charity starts at home. So does responsibility. All of the assorted kinds of responsibility. You can’t tell it by looking around America today, though. Today, though, we allow our elected morons in Washington to saddle us with socialized heath care that will not just spend us into oblivion but will just encourage more of this welfare state behavior. Not just that, but they are hitching us to this wagon that will tax us today with only a promise of some sort of coverage in a few years. Nothing for anyone now. disgusting no matter how you look at it – or them!

What happened to self-reliance? Self-respect? Personal responsibility? Parental responsibility?

Mayor Sam Jones

Mayor Sam “Moon Pie” Jones (D) of Mobile

I can tell you now, all of the above are rare birds indeed here in Mobile, AL! Our Liberal mayor and City Council are spending money like there is no end to it. Not on police to help with the ever increasing crime problems and not on teachers in our bottom-of-the-pile school system. No, good ol’ Sam Jones & Friends are spending it on outdoor movie projectors for inner city dwellers to enjoy here in one of the rainiest cities in America – and a giant Moon Pie. (If you’ve never been to the deep South you may not even know what a damned Moon Pie is. They are popular little chocolate-covered cakes with a marshmallow filling. They go good with RC cola and are thrown from floats to the crowd during the endless Mardi Gras parades.)

No kidding, folks! Aa $25,000+, 600 pound, electronic Moon Pie to be raised some 200 feet over the Mobile River and light up Mobile’s skyline at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve. That is a Liberal’s idea of fiscal responsibility for you.

Guess The Bull shouldn’t really be surprised at all the 16 year old mothers, should I?

Either this Country wakes up and demands the removal of these tax & spend idiots we have in elected offices Nationwide or we face the end of Freedom, Liberty, and the downward spiral of Humanity back into the horrors of the Dark Ages.

In 1783 Benjamin Franklin said “Where Liberty dwells, there is my Country“. Friend, I’m here to tell you that the United States of America is the last home of anything resembling true Liberty on this rock in space we call home. Seeing as how we have no spare planets to remove our selves to, we either repair our Nation – save our Freedom -or the party is over. Look around. Is this the sort of system you want your children and grandchildren growing up in? For me the answer is a resounding “NO!“.

One last question… How’s all of that “Hope & Change” working for you?

The story is out and is popping up on blogs, newspapers, and TV news shows across the Nation! The WKRG News 5 anchorman, Steve Alexander, just left “The Pasture” having interviewed (with only 5 minutes notice) The Bull and my male spawn, Jacob.

Before coming here, they had interviewed the Principal of Hankins Middle School, Ms. Wittner. Wouldn’t you know it, looks I caught her in a ‘lie of omission‘. From what I was told by the news folks, she told the camera that a meeting had been held to discuss the issue before the school year began and that no parents attended, however she left out the facts that a) the meeting was during a time when a fair number of folks were on vacation, b) that the meeting was billed as concerning the school uniform with NO mention of their plans to sexually segregate the school population, and c) that said segregation would be forced upon the students with no ‘opt-out’ classes available in direct violation of Title IX. Jacob also informed me that Ms. Wittner, the 7th Grade Vice-Principal, and an unknown woman in a business suit visited his class today. Seems Ms. Wittner knows exactly who Jacob is considering the nasty looks that were passed in his direction.

I can’t wait to see how the edited version of the interviews turns out. It is to be aired on the 10PM newscast tonight.

Later…

Well folks, I didn’t make a complete idiot of myself, (…though I can say with certainty that I’ll not be featured in any future Hollywierd flicks…). The star of the event was my lanky spawn. Jacob was simply brilliant! He was quoted: “They just teach us about how wrong segregation was between Blacks and Whites. Now turn around and do the same thing to us.” I’ve never been more proud! I guess my lessons on critical & independent thought are paying off…

(Video from this story on the WKRG website.)
I kinda felt for the kid at the end of the clip as you could tell he was echoing his parent’s words. I’m also still awaiting the “science” behind these so-called studies Ms. Wittner mentioned showing how differently girls and boys learn.

The media coverage continues but should die down quickly. The School Board now has thirty days to answer the ACLU’s letter.

The Mobile Press-Register, (with Brendan Kirby and Rena Havner reporting), quotes Mobile County School Superintendent Roy Nichols as follows:

“You get some research reports that show that girls do better in all-girl math classes and some other researchers that say boys don’t act out in classes where there are only boys. Other research reports say the exact opposite.”

Let me ask you, what kind of non-statement is that? Anyhoo, the Press-Register will be running a full story on the topic in the morning.

And I quote:

MOBILE, AL – After hearing from outraged parents of students who, without notice, were involuntarily segregated by sex at Hankins Middle School in Mobile, Alabama, the American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU of Alabama sent a letter to the Mobile County School System today warning that mandatory sex segregation in public schools is illegal and discriminatory. The civil liberties organization also asked, under the Alabama Open Records Act, that the school district make public any and all documents relating to sex segregation policies in Mobile County schools from the past two years.

“Mandatory sex segregation in public schools is not only clearly against the law, it’s also an empty promise for failing schools,” said Allison Neal, staff attorney with the ACLU of Alabama. “Inevitably these experimental programs deny equal opportunity to girls and boys and distract much needed time and money from efforts that we know work like smaller classes, highly trained teachers, sufficient funding and involved parents. Sex segregation doesn’t make public schools more like private schools. If some private schools provide a better education, it’s because of their resources, not because they are single-sex.”

Without notifying parents, Mobile County School System segregated the entire student body of Hankins Middle School by sex for the 2008-2009 school year and failed to provide any coeducational option. In addition to segregating students for all academic subjects, the sex segregation program goes so far as to punish boys and girls who are caught speaking in the hallways.

The ACLU charges that mandatory sex segregation in public schools violates Title IX of the Education Amendments, the Equal Education Opportunities Act and the U.S. Constitution.

There is more. You can find it all here. The “Mark Jones” mentioned is, of course, Yours Truly.

Well, I did warn themtwice, didn’t I?

Did anyone read my post Welcome Back to the Segregation of Public Schools!? If not, go back and read it now for the matter will be heating up starting today.

The Bull did contact the ACLU. The ACLU did find the matter as disturbing as I – and – they agreed to take action on the matter. The Mobile County School Board and the Principal of Katherine H. Hankins Middle School, Ms. Cheryl Wittner, will be receiving a letter from the ACLU legal-eagles this morning. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the local media outlets will be getting their press release packets on the matter at the same time.

My position is simple. Either the County and the school can drop this ill-conceived idea of sexual segregation or I’ll fight.

I discussed he matter at some length with Ms. Wittner since my original post. However, she was not in the least willing to consider, or even listen to, any ideas other than her own. Sad, really. My son, Jake, pointed out to me something I find very troubling. The school’s mission statement reads:

Katherine H. Hankins Middle School will guarantee a learning environment for all participating students to achieve the necessary skills to succeed at their next level of academic, social, and physical potential.

Social? How can students achieve their social potential when not only are they being segregated by sex under penalty of suspension and the very curriculum they are being taught is based on the notion that the girls can only perform well, and I quote, “a few day per month” due to their menstrual cycles? Anyone with a daughter should be up in arms about the entire mess. Why aren’t they? Because not only was the curriculum not explained to the parents, the parents were not even notified that the curriculum was being changed! Nor were we notified of any plan to segregate our kids. The usual horse crap we here in Mobile have come to expect from our School Board.

Well, I can only hope that the Board is ready for the feces to impact the rotating atmospheric oscillator. I’m in this until this madness is defeated or until Lady Beth buries me. So here’s your ‘heads up’: Expect a regular stream of post on this fight for the next several months. I’ll keep you posted unless gagged by a court order. If that happens I know someone else will do it for me!

On the County website Dr. Roy D. Nichols, Superintendent of Mobile County Schools, says:

“I am honored to be the Superintendent of the Mobile County Public School System.”

Hell, who wouldn’t be at that salary!

“Thank you for putting your faith in me and my ability to keep the system moving forward and reaching new heights.”

It is clear to The Bull that the ‘faith’ he is speaking of is very much mis-placed! Further, ‘reaching new heights’ in the Mobile, AL school system wouldn’t be a difficult job for a standard cockroach! Dr. Nichols apparently hasn’t been paying attention to our rankings as compared to the rest of the Nation. Too many golf games on tax payer time, (and tax payer expense), no doubt.

“School systems are one of the more complex organizations to manage, with budget, personnel and labor issues.”

Especially with the teacher’s union calling the shots and holding the elected/appointed officials in their pocket along with the loose change! Then, of course, we have all of those very well-paid upper-level officials while the poorly-paid teaching positions are being cut! Makes me wonder what the hell good the union is anyway. Oh, wait… I forgot! The purpose of the NEA is to get liberals elected to offices (local through Federal levels) and to guarantee the jobs of the most inept instructors imaginable.

What fired me up today?

Trying to get my oldest son – a returning student, mind you – registered for school. The District has made the process nearly impossible. We did finally get the kid registered… It took two trips, a dozen documents, four ID’s, and visits from The Bull and Lady Beth (who had to leave work in the middle of the day).

Why all the hassle?

When asked the school said it to keep out those that do not belong in the Mobile County Public Schools. That’s a joke! With all of the non-English speaking illegals in our schools? No. They will allow anyone in! Oh! the good folks at Hankins Middle School simply hung up on me the first time I questioned them on the phone. Like rude behavior would make The Bull go away! (They don’t know me too well, do they?) The Superintendent’s Office says it is to keep students from moving from the other (new) middle schools to my son’s school that was opened in the year 1918. No kidding – 1918! Yeah, we’re all just dying to get our kids into sub-caliber Mobile, AL schools – especially the one that was serving students at the beginning of the last century!

I never did get a straight answer as to why it took so much. Never got an apology for the rude behavior, either.

Considering what group we’re talking about, and the leadership thereof, I’m not surprised.

THAT, my Dear Readers, is the question!

Troy King, the Attorney General of Alabama, and the presumed GOP favorite for the Alabama Governor’s race in 2010 is rumored to be in a world of deep, dark shyte. Both at home and in the political (if not public) eye. The reason? Boy, is that ever a story! Or perhaps, just rumor…?

For the past couple of weeks there have been rumors floating about Alabama’s nether regions (read as “State House”) concerning our anti-sex, anti-gay, tied-way-too-tight Attorney General planning his resignation due to a divorce action filed by his wife, supposedly confirmed by Montogmery’s WSFA. The cause of said action is supposedly marital infidelity of the worst sort – especially for someone with such a public hatred for all things sexual as Troy King. According to several sources, including (and quoting) the near-100% accurate Perez Hilton:

Notoriously anti-gay Republican Alabama Attorney General Troy King was supposedly caught in his marital bed, by his wife, sexing it up with a young, gay, male assistant!!

Whoa!

Toys for Troy
(See this post for an explanation)

Let’s remember that this is the same Troy King that demanded that Alabama’s archaic 1998 law against any sort of device that can be used for “self gratification” be enforced by our already over-worked Law Enforcement agencies. It is the Attorney General’s opinion that Government influence should, and does, extend to the bedroom activities of consenting adults – even when alone! So for the last couple of years anyone wanting to legally buy a dildo has had to drive into one of our neighboring States or procure one via mail order. Viva la Internet!

Again, until more evidence arises, and it will, this should not be deemed fact. However, the McCain Campaign has now dropped all mention of Troy King as their “Chair of the McCain 2008 Alabama campaign” which was announced on January 29, 2008. In fact, they have verily sanitized their site! What they failed to recall is that Google caches their pages, so it was only a matter of a simple search to find the original press release. Further, ‘Common Sense, at the Alabama blog, Left In Alabama (see “Comments”), reports:

Sources at the Montgomery Advertiser say that they have been sitting on the story for a couple of weeks. They’re working the story fast and furiously but won’t run until they get official confirmation due to possible exposure to a lawsuit from King. Their sources tell them that Troy King was caught in a compromising situation with a male aide at King’s home by his wife. The Montgomery Advertiser is trying to determine who King would submit his resignation to – is it Gov. Bob Riley? A press release from King’s office stated that he was supposed to be in Mobile yesterday (Wednesday). The Mobile-Register is working the story as well.â€??

The Bull has confirmed that the Mobile-Register is working the story.

Mr. King, you’ve stepped into it now!

It is well known that The Bull is firmly entrenched on the Conservative side of Independent. I’m not ‘pro-gay’ or ‘anti-gay’. I like sex as much as anybody. We were, after all, designed by our Creator to enjoy sex. I just don’t think that it is any of the Government’s business what consenting adults do in their bedroom. If minors were involved, I have a differing opinion. I agree with Mr. King’s opinion on many topics, including the Death Penalty for the rape of children. The Bull absolutely abhors a hypocrite, though!

That said, I’ve got to say that the near-total silence from King, and the GOP in general, on this matter looks like nothing more than a cover-up. Exactly what the ‘Dem-wits’ want! Saying that they (King & flunkies) will not “confirming or denying” anything simply will not make it! If the rumors are pure trash, then say so. Loudly! On the other hand, if Troy King is indeed the hypocritical idiot that he has so appeared to be to any thinking Human Being, then he is not worth the effort being expended to save the shreds of his reputation – throw him in the trash! This will not, and is not, doing the Conservative hopes of 2008 any good at all. Hypocrisy must be one thing we keep out of our elected positions and any other position of power, be it local, state , or national in scope.

All of this kind of makes one wonder what else is hidden in Troy King’s “not-for-prime-time” closet, doesn’t it? Sorry for the pun, I couldn’t resist.

No matter if you are on the Left or the Right of the political center it is clearly time for Troy King to exit from the Alabama Public Arena. Exit, stage left!

We’ll be watching, Troy. We’ll be watching…

If you live in Alabama, and in or near the City Mobile in particular, then you know all about the big battle over the new tanker for the US Air Force. Perhaps you know more than you really wanted to know! There are billboards, TV commercials, newspaper and magazine ads everywhere.

For those that don’t know here is the story in a nutshell…

The USAF is in desperate need of replacing its fleet of ancient KC135 Stratotankers. They leak, the airframes are stress-weakened, they are way beyond their planned lifespan and, frankly, they are beginning to drop like flys. In 2001 Boeing was awarded a $23.5 billion contract to lease 100 of its KC-767 tankers to the Air Force. Then U.S. Sen. John McCain, (R-Ariz.), broke open a scandal when he revealed that Boeing had conspired with the Pentagon’s chief weapons buyer to inflate the contract price.

So, the USAF holds a competition. Two companies come out on top:

  • The recently disgraced, but still big-time Congressional favorite, Boeing with its KC-767, and…
  • Northrop/Grummanand its chief subcontractor EADS, (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co.) with their new KC-45. This plane was to be built in Mobile, AL if it won.

When the dust had settled the USAF (you know, the guys who actually have to live with the plane) chose the KC-45.

Within hours Boeing, and their paid-off “pocket politicians” like U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks, (D-Wash.) and the infamous coward U.S. Sen. Carl Levin, (D-Mich.) began the smear job against the KC-45 and even the citizens of Mobile, AL. First it was that the plane would have foreign made parts, as does damned near every item in our military arsenal – including the Boeing offering. Then it was the statements saying that the citizens of Mobile, AL – being Southerners – couldn’t possibly build anything as technologically advanced as an Air Force tanker. It should be left to “more intelligent people”, they said. (I’ll not bother going into the endless litany of high-tech devices built in the South, or for that matter, right here in the Mobile area. The Yanks wouldn’t believe me anyway.)

When the above failed, the “pocket politicians” demanded a GAO review – and got it. Now the results are in and after almost three months of back-room politics, under-the-table payoffs, and the usual dirty-dealing, Boeing has managed to get a “re-do” at the competition. Did the GAO find that the KC-45 was inferior? No. Its two biggest gripes were that The Air Force did not give Boeing enough credit for meeting a series of technical requirements, and the service should have concluded that the long-term costs of operating Boeing’s KC-767 were lower than Northrop’s KC-45. Not that the service cost mean anything if the item is doing the job that it was built to do. Do you think that the soldier in a tank is worried about how much it cost to service that tank, or that it will protect him and kill the enemy? See my point?

Bottom line: The USAF will have to wait for a minimum of yet another year before even the decision is made.

What jerks The Bull’s chain the most is the following statement:

“This being an election year, we doubt whether any decision will be made rapidly,” Rob Stallard, an analyst at Macquarie Capital in New York, said in a note to investors. “Political support for both sides is vocal and entrenched, and in our opinion we would not be surprised if the (Air Force) ultimately buys both Airbus and Boeing tankers.”

Once again, it is politicians and the political season that is determining what equipment goes to our fighting men and women – not what gets the job done. Shouldn’t surprise me though. These are the very same (liberal) politicians that voted to deny our fighting forces their needed armor, ammo, and even food they needed in a battle zone just to make political hay.

There are more jokes out there about Alabama than I can count. Some are funny, but most are simply insulting. There is one joke out there that is actually true…

The State of Alabama outlawed “sex toys”.

Yes, in 1998 the sale of sex toys was banned in Alabama. (That date is correct. Not ‘1898′, but actually ‘1998′. Frightening, isn’t it?) Possessing the items remains legal as does the possession of condoms and virility drugs. The purchase of sex toys for “bona fide medical or other purposes” is also allowed, although you still have to go out of state to buy them. Frankly, The Bull would love to hear the explanation of a silicone penis’s “bona fide medical purpose”…

Lawsuits against this stupidity went all the way to the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta. The lower courts had all thrown out the idiocy as un-Constitutional. However, the robed felons figures in Atlanta said in 2004 that there is no Constitutional right to sexual privacy. (My guess is that the Founding Fathers all considered that idea to be a ‘given’.) The ‘law’ still stands, though the Court did say, pretty much flat-out, that the law was “silly”. Another suit against the law made its way up to the U.S. Supreme Court earlier this year, those clowns declined to hear the case.

vibrating ducky

Enter one Loretta Nall, former gubernatorial candidate and Internet blogger. Ms. Nall has organized a “Sex Toys for Troy King” drive, encouraging folks to send sex toys to Attorney General Troy King’s office in Montgomery, AL.

The Bull loves this idea! I’ve got no use for Ms. Nall’s drug policy, but on this point we’re eye-to-eye.

The Attorney General had this to say, (through a spokesman, of course): “We have 105 members of the House and 35 members of the Senate. I would suggest (Nall) buy 140 items and send them to the (members of the) Legislature.”

I love this idea as well!

On Tuesday Ms. Nall said that prosecuting store owners is both a violation of privacy and a waste of time. “It’s absolutely outrageous an attorney general would squander our tax dollars and barge into our bedrooms and tell us what we can and cannot do in Alabama,” she said. “We have real crime in Alabama.”

In Jefferson County a local judge declined to close a sex toys store in north Alabama’s town of Hoover, (I’ll leave this joke opening alone…), earlier this month, saying the law’s vagueness on what constitutes “adults-only enterprises” means the city can’t close the shop.

Brian Lyman, writing for the Mobile Press-Register, reports the following:

The attorney general has not made a decision on whether to push for the change to the language, Bence said. King will soon start meeting with law enforcement officials to determine his legislative agenda, and Bence said strengthening anti-obscenity language in the law will be on the agenda if a majority of police say they want it.

The initial 1998 lawsuit was brought by the American Civil Liberties Union, two store owners and four women who said they needed the devices for medical purposes. Store owners have said they would invoke the law’s medical exception to continue selling the items. Nall, however, said it shouldn’t come to that.

“Maybe next time you’ll have to show a note from the doctor that you have to buy that,” she said. “I think it’s ridiculous to have to give a reason to purchase something like that if we’re over 18 years old.”

You have a fine point there, Ms. Nall! The Bull agrees completely, (even though I hate to be on the same side as the ACLU). With all of the real crime in this State, hell – in this Country, you would think that the State could find better uses for its limited resources than coming between adults and their harmless toys. If you agree and wish to join Free Americans in making a point, send the sex toy of your choice to Alabama’s Attorney General at:

Office of the Attorney General
Alabama State House
11 South Union Street, Third Floor
Montgomery, AL 36130

One final note:
According to Ms. Nall, the attorney general’s office should be receiving an inflatable pig via the mail by the end of this week.

Today was Pagan Pride Day here in Mobile, AL and your intrepid writer and bloated ego,The Bull, was proud to be counted as one of those Pagans in attendance. It’s been quite a while since I was in the fellowship of others of my kind and it felt rather good I must say. Despite some minor concerns of security, (provided ably by the local Heathen contingent and the USA Police Dept.), of a possible Muslim incursion, the day went off without a hitch.

We couldn’t have conjured better weather had we tried and the facilities supplied by the University of South Alabama were superb. I offer my sincerest thanks to that fine institution for their support of all Americans rights to Freedom of Religion.

I do think the time has come for me to retake my rightful place in Pagan Society. I’ve healed all I’m going to from my injuries, have come to terms with my limitations, and just possibly have something left to give back to the Faith that directed me to the Life I lead now as a strong-willed, dedicated, American who loves his Country.

As a side note though, I should mention that The Bull did set out a collection box for our rescue, Chaos & Critters, and collected more money in five hours than that same box garnered in eighteen months at B&B Pet Stop here in Mobile. Perhaps that says something about the generosity of Pagans. The fact that no one tried to steal from it says more about the afore mentioned store! (See my previous post here.)

Blessings!

The Castle Doctrine. An idea who’s time has come. Here is how one Alabama family chose to implement The Bull’s favorite law…

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ?? A burglar in Montgomery chose the wrong family to mess with, literally.

Adrian and Tiffany McKinnon returned to their Centennial Hill home Tuesday after a week away to find that thieves had emptied almost everything the family of five owned, Tiffany McKinnon said through tears.

“Tears just rolled down my face as I walked in and saw everything gone and piles of trash all over my home,” she said.

Adrian McKinnon sent his wife to see her sister while he inspected the piles left behind. As he walked back into the sunroom, a man walked through the back door straight into him, Tiffany McKinnon told the Montgomery Advertiser in a story Thursday.

“My husband Adrian caught the thief red-handed in our home,” she said. “And what is even crazier, the man even had my husband’s hat sitting right on his head.”

Adrian McKinnon held the suspect, 33-year-old Tajuan Bullock, at gunpoint and told him to sit on the floor until he decided what to do.

“We made this man clean up all the mess he made, piles of stuff, he had thrown out of my drawers and cabinets onto the floor,” Tiffany McKinnon said.

When police arrived, Bullock complained about being forced to clean the home at gunpoint.

“This man had the nerve to raise sand about us making him clean up the mess he made in my house,” she said. “The police officer laughed at him when he complained and said anybody else would have shot him dead.” Roger that! ~Bull

Capt. Huey Thornton, a police spokesman, said police arrested Bullock at 2 p.m. Tuesday on burglary and theft charges. He was being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility on a $30,000 bond.

What America needs is MORE families with this kind of backbone and, I’ll admit, restraint. If so we might be able to retrain some of these thugs with a little less bloodshed. However, if that fails then we could always just shoot the bastards.

A great big “BULL BALLS” Award to Adrian McKinnon for standing up to the outlaws, protecting his family and property, and for being a responsible gun owner (and apparently a CCW holder).

If there is one thing that The Bull can not stand it is the existence of thieves in our society. One of the few things worse than your basic thief is one that steals from charitable organizations, and that, Dear Reader, is what we are dealing with today.

As you are aware, my dear wife, Lady Beth, operates one of only two or three IRS 501(c)(3), Tax-Exempt, exotic animal rescues in the entire Nation. The rescue is called Chaos & Critters. This entity operates solely on the donations and adoption fees. To help feed the creatures we house there have been a couple of donation boxes stationed at pet stores here in Mobile, AL. One of these boxes has sat at Mobile’s largest pet store, B & B Pet Stop, (operated by Mobile’s well known Trufant family), for almost a year. Despite the traffic that store garners, and it being the only store where exotic supplies are readily availible, donations have always been rather slim. It was assumed that this lack of production was simply because exotic pets are considered as ‘throw-away’ pets by the majority of society. We were wrong!

Today we learned that the real cause for such lack-luster donations is the specter of rampant thievery in that store.

Just yesterday Lady Beth had stopped by to pick up a couple of other items and had noticed several dollars in the lockbox. She stopped by there this morning to purchase food for several of the creatures and found that the majority of the cash had been removed. Not just ‘removed’, the lock had been compromised and the cash had been stolen! What makes this so irritating is the fact that this had obviously been done by either an employee of B&B Pet Stop or under the direct observation and backing of said employees.

Now, how in the world can I be so sure?
Quite simple. The lock had been forced by someone inserting a screwdriver, or similar, devices and turning forcibly so as to cause the retaining nut to loosen so the entire lock could spin and the cash box could be removed. Having installed the lock myself, I know it was installed both correctly and tightly. The operation necessary to loosen the lock could not have been done quickly. It took time. Most damning, the donation lockbox has always been located on the check-out island of the store under the direct supervision of at least one – and most often three – clerks.

This all boils down to one inescapable conclusion for The Bull. That conclusion is that the grand ol’ B & B has indeed become a ‘Den of Thieves‘. This , of course, is not the only example of thievery going on at that store. Oh hell no! They are forever finding everything from animals and other stock being stolen, to employees finding their personal items, (ie: wallets, credit cards, coats and such), stolen right out of the break room. For some unknown reason, the Trufant’s simply refuse to address these issues.

The Bull challenges the Trufant Family to clean up their act and bring B & B Pet Stop back to its former glory. Meanwhile, the creatures will be on reduced commons…

Alonzo, (97), and Beulah Sims, (94), celebrated their anniversary a day early Sunday at the nursing home where they have lived since May 2002.

Without their families’ approval, the two teens married in 1927, when he was working at a farm, plowing fields with a mule and picking cotton for 50 cents a day.

The couple, who raised six children, credit their long lives to hard farm work and eating lots of vegetables. They moved frequently to find farm work, going from Paint Rock Valley near Garth to Atchley Bottom in Madison County and then to Woodville in the 1960s.

They said their eight decades of marriage have been virtually free of fussing.

“We’ve been too busy to fight,” Beulah Sims said.

Alonzo Sims retired from farming in 1966 and did janitorial work at Redstone Arsenal until 1972. They also operated service stations in Paint Rock and Woodville for a few years. Now, they spend their time visiting other residents at the nursing home, listening to gospel music, and playing bingo.

“After all these years,” he said, “I still enjoy being with her.”

Ahhhh! The kind of story The Bull loves to read – an this one from Alabama as well! How cool is that? The only sadness I can manage over this story is that I didn’t meet Lady Beth early enough in Life to have that many years with her. Hell, I just have to be happy for each day as it comes!

Well, The Bull sends his best wishes to Mr. & Mrs. Sims. You guys are an inspiration to all Americans!

Bull, out.  End of Article
