School | The Bull Speaks!

I received an email this morning from my future son-in-law. Justin is one of Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children, but has managed to be trained in the use of computer equipment just the same.

Sure, these have been seen on the Web before. Everywhere, in fact. But not here….until today! These two wee email snippets show the truth about America these days. Something people should THINK about before throwing a vote for the Liberals next month.

Read, enjoy, & THINK!

NUTRITION:
After an exhaustive review of the research literature,
here’s the final word on nutrition and health:

1. Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.
2. Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.
3. Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks
than us.
4. Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and suffer fewer heart
attacks than us.
5. Germans drink beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer
fewer heart attacks than us.

Conclusion:
Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is
apparently what kills you. But don’t worry, your
Government is trying to correct this problem.

faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy.

TRUTH, all of it. Sad, sad, truth about the Nation I love so much. Daily I see living examples of what someone somewhere meant as an internet joke. Worse, I see my fellow Americans being force-fed shit from the stinking hands of people like Soros and Obama. I see the people who were supposed to be on our side, (yes, I’m talkin’ about Dubya here…), trying to steal away our Constitutional Rights under the guise of “public safety”.

Where has America’s backbone gone? I swear, some ays I just want to cry.

Here’s a teaser…

When classes start Aug. 25 at the tiny Harrold school district, there will be one distinct difference from years prior ?? some of the teachers may have guns.

To deter and protect against school shootings, trustees have altered district policy to allow employees to carry concealed weapons if they have permits. The 110-student district lies 150 miles northwest of Fort Worth on the eastern end of Wilbarger County, near the Oklahoma border.

If you want to read the rest, (& you should), then you need to get over to TexasFred’s place and check it out. Be sure to tell him that The Bull sent ya!

This story is almost too good to be true! Common Sense shining through the fog of stupidity that generally runs our schools at long las. It will be challenged, of course. It may not even stand, but it is a start in the right direction.

There are good ideas when it comes to teaching kids. There are bright ideas when it comes to how to discipline kids, too.

There are, however, NO good, decent, or bright ideas when it comes to segregation of kids in the public schools. None, what so ever. Segregation was a bad idea when we did it by race and it is a bad idea when we do it today by sex.

In my son’s middle school, Hankins Middle School of Theodore, AL, (a suburb of Mobile, AL), the principle has taken it upon herself – without any form of notice to the parents drom either the school or District offices – to segregate the students by their sex – males in one set of classrooms and the females in another set of classrooms. Moreover, Ms. Cheryl Wittner has the full support of the Mobile County School District.

Or maybe she only thinks she has… The District would not discuss it with The Bull save to say that in their opinion “children have no ‘rights’ and that it is entirely a school-by-school decision to be made by the principle of the school“.

OK, since when do Americans, middle school age or not, “have no rights“?

I know that there are plenty of folks that will say that students will likely study better without the distraction of members of the opposite sex sitting within arms reach. Some of those same people will say that discipline in the schools will improve if the sexes are separated. To those people let me answer with the following:

Looking back through the last hundred years I can find no evidence of American students failing to learn just because a member of the opposite sex was sitting nearby. In fact, let us not forget that that those non-sexually segregated students gave us all the modern marvels we use in our daily lives. They even sent men to the moon. Not a bad record. As for discipline, there is also no evidence that behavior failed during all of those decades. No, discipline failed when corporal punishment and strict parenting fell out of favor. It had nothing to do with the sexes being mingled.

All of this, of course, is merely The Bull letting off steam and no one will care. So let’s look more closely at this trend of sexual segregation.

In the more modern times, indeed, until the year 2000, such sexual segregation was outlawed in America. However, laws have been relaxed to allow the “experimentation” with this sad, out-dated mode of education. Since that date several states have looked into the implementation of sex segregation including Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and now Alabama.
(Do you see a geographical trend?)
The Education Department issued final rules in 2006 detailing how it would enforce the Title IX landmark anti-discrimination law. Under the change, local school leaders have discretion to create same-sex classes for subjects such as math, a grade level or even an entire school. The idea being “separate, but equal, education“, (We’ve heard that before here in America, haven’t we?), for all of the ghost-reasons listed above – and others that you won’t believe!

The problem is that the education received may be separate, but is rarely equal.

Enter, the ACLU, stage left. (…and it is killing The Bull to write this. )

Note: Folks, I physically had to leave the computer at this point for several hours. This entire subject, the ACLU, & the fact of just how liberal I think I’m sounding here made me physically ill. It is now after midnight and I will try again to made my case against this “new” idea in education. The writing here does not, and will not, live up to my usual standards simply because of how upset I am over the entire topic. No words can describe the disappointment I am feeling that my beloved Nation that struggled so long over segregation would so willingly start down that path again.

So, the Bush Administration opened the door to this horror from the past. (Not one of Dubya’s better moments, for sure!) But why? Why would anyone even consider such an act? Where is this educational horse-shyte coming from? Here’s a clue…

Charlotte Allen, (author of an op-ed in the Washington
(com)Post on Sunday, March 2, 2008
) wrote:

The theory that women are the dumber sex…is amply supported by neurological and standardized-testing evidence. Men’s and women’s brains not only look different, but men’s brains are bigger than women’s (even adjusting for men’s generally bigger body size). The important difference is in the parietal cortex, which is associated with space perception. Visuospatial skills, the capacity to rotate three-dimensional objects in the mind, at which men tend to excel over women, are in turn related to a capacity for abstract thinking and reasoning, the grounding for mathematics, science and philosophy.

Then we have Michael Gurian, (the author of Boys and Girls Learn Differently!, & founder of the Gurian Institute). He wrote in the Teacher’s Guide that accompanies his book:

Girls have difficulty learning some math, perhaps because they are not called on as much but also for biological reasons. Adolescent males receive surges of the hormone testosterone five to seven times a day; this can increase spatial skills, such as higher math. Increased estrogen during the menstrual cycle increases female performance in all skills, including spatials, so an adolescent girl may perform well on any test, including math, a few days per month.

What the hell? THIS is what we shall use as our guidelines toward training our young? We have just been set back several centuries in our gender roles. But wait! It gets worse!

A guy named Leonard Sax, a family physician and the founder of the National Association for Single-Sex Public Education, states that biologically, girls’ brains perform worse under stress, while boys’ brains perform better, and thus girls should never be given time limits on tasks, while boys’ classes should be structured around competition.

As it was asked on an ACLU website: “Who do you think will perform better in a demanding work environment after receiving such a gender-typed education?”

Let me ask this as well: What about the social skills that are being lost? How can children learn to behave around the opposite sex if they are not allowed to interact in any way without threat of punishment, such as what is happening at Hankins Middle School? How will this play out in the future lives of these children? It is too big of a gamble in my book.

The ideas proposed by the supporters of this segregation of children are fortunately NOT without their detractors. Many studies show that it is much better for male and female children to be together during the educational process. Prof. Analia Schlosser, from Tel Aviv University, wrote that boys and girls may learn differently, but American parents should think twice before moving their children to sex-segregated schools. Let me quote from the AFTAU webpage on the topic:

“Being with more girls is good for everybody,? says Prof. Analia Schlosser, an economist from the Eitan Berglas School of Economics at Tel Aviv University. “We find that both boys and girls do better when there are more girls in the class.? She investigated girls and boys in mixed classrooms in the elementary, middle, and high-school grades of the Israeli school system.

In an unpublished paper, Prof. Schlosser concluded that classes with more than 55 percent of girls resulted in better exam results and less violent outbursts overall. “It appears that this effect is due to the positive influence the girls are adding to the classroom environment,? says Prof. Schlosser. She carried out the study while on a post-doctoral fellowship at Princeton University, and will study the effects of gender in higher education lecture halls next.

This is one of few studies of its kind to use scientific data to address the question of gender effects in school.

Pulling out my best Master Yoda voice I have to say “Interesting, that last line was”.

It appears, from the research The Bull has done so far that most school districts starting sex-segregated programs today are doing so on the based entirely on these theories. The rest are using the simply stupid idea of improved behavior. There are a thankfully small number, (mainly in Canada), that are sexually segregating their students in order to conform to Islamic (Sharia) law. I pray that is never the case here. However, considering the attitudes in the Mobile District offices, who can be sure?

I wish assure my readers that it sickens me to have to agree with so liberal a bunch as the ACLU, NOW, and others. However, this idea of gender segregation is one that should be, must be, stopped. It is as vile as the idea of racial segregation and should be treated the same. To that end The Bull has contacted the ACLU of Alabama and have requested their help in this matter. I am now awaiting their response. There has been success in striking down this foolishness in other states.
I pray that this is squashed in Alabama soon.

Please, leave your comments and let me know just how far off-base you think I am. There will be follow-ups to this post. No doubt at all. Now I need to hurl…

If you are a parent and have not heard of the drug-resistant form of staph known as MRSA running through the school systems of America, then you have been hiding under a rock! The story really got going when a student from the school district The Bull himself graduated from, (Bedford County, VA.), died as this super-bug ravaged his body. This victim was 17-year-old Ashton Bonds, a student at the Staunton River High School. A tragedy to be sure, but could it have been prevented?

:!: Sources to The Bull have informed me that in one Pensacola, FL inner-city school there is an employee (non-teacher position)that is a carrier of MRSA who is being actively treated for the disease and has at least four open ‘colonies’ of the bacteria on the body at this moment, is still working with the students – every day – even though the school principal was informed the moment that the said employee was diagnosed! The school official actually made the comment, (as quoted to The Bull), that the employee should “just keep this information between us“. Another comment made by a school system employee recently was that “this entire staph thing is just being blown all out of proportion“. (Said employee was told by a doctor that hospitalization may soon be required.) :!:

Excuse the heck outta me! Children are dying! “Out of proportion“? When it comes to the health and welfare of my kids, nothing concerning staph is out of proportion! The Bull wants to know ALL! Is this an example of how our school systems feel about the health of our children? How many school principals are keeping such secrets How many kids are now infected, or possibly condemned to death, by this one principal’s lack of concern? There are all kinds of staph. I’ll assume. for the sake of argument, the principal thinks this employee is mistaken. Let’s further assume for a moment that someone would say they have MRSA, but don’t actually have the disease. Why would you take the risk?

Frankly, if this kind of active cover-up is going on in the school system of Pensacola, FL, then what are the chances of the same kind of crime vs. humanity happening here in Mobile, AL? What about your school system, Dear Reader? Speaking of Pensacola, when will that school district over there do the right thing and clean their schools? Or is it, Pensacola, simply that your inner city kids are not worth the effort and expense? Here’s a hint: What starts in the inner city doesn’t necessarily stay in the inner city. Wake up, Pensacola! Wake up, America!

This has been going on for a while it seems. School systems all over the Nation are reporting outbreaks, schools are being closed for cleaning everywhere. Already we have had school closures in nearby communities and confirmed cases this bug in the Spanish Fort, AL schools, and that is just across Mobile Bay. On October 12th 11-year-old Shae Keirnan of Vancleave, MS died of this disease. That’s too close to home.
Mobile, it seems, is surrounded.

May the Gods watch over our children. After all, our school systems won’t…

Addendum: The above mentioned school employee had reportedly made the condition known to the local health department. According to the employees’ statement, the Florida Health Dept was less than concerned.

Why am I not surprised? Yes, staph is everywhere. MRSA, however, is not and The Bull would like to keep it that way.

MRSA Info.

First off, not all staph is MRSA! Staph is everywhere. There is no escaping it. Most of the time it is just another of the wee bugs colonizing our homes and our skin. However, there are strains of the bacteria that given a chance will indeed wreck your day. This particular bug goes far beyond that and is a real danger to your life and the lives of your children.

What is MRSA anyway?

According to Wikipedia, “Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), is also known as oxacillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (ORSA), multiple-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, CA-MRSA (community-acquired MRSA) and HA-MRSA (hospital-acquired MRSA). It is a biological agent responsible for difficult-to-treat infections in humans. (MSSA is Methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus.)

How bad is this staph infection anyway?

Do NOT allow yourself be lulled by the thought that the death of Ashton was an isolated incident. Far from it! According to a study by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a government study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association earlier this month, estimated that more than 90,000 Americans suffered from MRSA in 2005, including 18,650 deaths. The researchers do not know if the MRSA strain was the cause in all cases.

How can you catch this bug?

It can be as simple as a touch.
Handshakes, kisses, any skin-to-skin contact with a person with open wounds containing the bacteria. My sources tell me that it can be caught from a toilet seat. (Note to Ladies: Practice ‘hovering’ when you pee…) Again, according to Wikipedia, S. aureus most commonly colonizes the nostrils, although the respiratory tract, open wounds, intravenous catheters, and urinary tract are also potential sites for infection. Healthy individuals may carry MRSA asymptomatically for periods ranging from a few weeks to many years. Patients with compromised immune systems are at a significantly greater risk of symptomatic secondary infection.

What does it look like? How can I tell if my child is infected?

Most, but not all, people who are symptomatic present with painful pus-filled boils and occasionally with rashes. Check your kids – and yourself – for anything looking like a pimple that doesn’t seem to go away or becomes very inflamed. Don’t worry about being thought an annoyance. If something doesn’t look or feel right, see your doctor immediately!

How can MRSA be treated?

“CA-MRSA, (commonly aquired MRSA), often results in abscess formation that requires incision and drainage. Before the spread of MRSA into the community, abscesses were not considered contagious because it was assumed that infection required violation of skin integrity and the introduction of staphylococci from normal skin colonization. However, newly emerging CA-MRSA is transmissible (similar, but with very important differences) from hospital-acquired MRSA. CA-MRSA is less likely than other forms of MRSA to cause cellulitis.

“Both CA-MRSA and HA-MRSA are resistant to traditional anti-staphylococcal beta-lactam antibiotics, such as cephalexin. CA-MRSA has a greater spectrum of antimicrobial susceptibility, including to sulfa drugs, tetracyclines, and clindamycin. HA-MRSA is resistant even to these antibiotics and often is susceptible only to vancomycin. Newer drugs, such as linezolid (belonging to the newer oxazolidinones class), may be effective against both CA-MRSA and HA-MRSA.

“Vancomycin and teicoplanin are glycopeptide antibiotics used to treat MRSA infections.” (Wikipedia)

A new type of antibiotic, called platensimycin, and had demonstrated its successful use against MRSA. Don’t hold your breath, though… The FDA is years away from allowing this life saver to be used. (Gotta protect the pharmaceuticals companies from lawsuits, you know… )

How can I prevent this from happening to me and/or my family?

Simple. CLEAN! MRSA can survive on surfaces and fabrics, including clothing, curtains, furniture and on hard surfaces like countertops, doorknobs, toilet seats and flush handles. Simply put, it is where you are. The very best way to disinfect is to use vaporizing sanitizers, however that is rather specialized equipment. The best thing to do is to remember K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Stupid). Clean every surface possible. Wash your hands – often! And don’t forget the hand sanitizer! Alcohol has proven to be very effective in killing staph on surfaces. Drive the idea of personal hygiene into your kids. It just might save their lives.

The Bull sincerely hopes that this post will force the hands of those in charge of our children to work harder and smarter to keep them safe from such disease. I also hope to see a full investigation of the Pensacola, FL school system. That kind of indifference is completely unacceptable, if not criminal.
